The only reason I have Slime Warmer cable is as backup for when it rains hard here and the satellite signal drops and also for the Hawaii football pay-per-views. Actually, the Hawaii games are probably the sole reason...I can live with the rare satellite signal drops. I'm seriously thinking upgradin my DirecTV to HD, regardless of the initial cost because I know it'll be far better than Slime Warmer...

yea but i'm poor:(....help is on the way

I would really like to see them redo the deal on the HD DVR unit. Right now we run an HD receiver and a regular DVR in parallel. The benfit is redundancy in case conditions make HD iffy we have the regular feed. The downside is bulk and wiring. I wish to consolidate into one HD-DVR receiver, but just have knee-jerk negative reaction to their $399 cost increment. A call to customer retention may be in my future.
Their HD-DVR units are running around $299 right now. I think I saw it for $269 at Costco a few weeks ago.

I got mine for $99. they'll pretty much give existing users a $100 break. I told them I wanted it for free and made a lengthy argument with a manager, since they had given my brother a free one, and $99 was her best offer. She said that they weren't giving anymore for free, which they did initially when they released them. If you've been with DirecTv a while (over 5 years) then you should be able to get it $99 by talking to a manager or retention.

She returned me to a regular rep to finish setting up the date for installation, and I talked her into giving me Showtime free for 6 months (about a $60 value). So I basically got it for $40 taking the Showtime deal into account.
