If you don't wear scarlet on Saturday, are you a jerk?

JXC

17-4 since 2001
I say yes.

There really is no excuse. Find something red. If you own nothing that color that is warm then what have you been doing all these years? Get your butt to a thrift store or something and buy a cheap red sweater or coat or something!

Is there anybody out there who is going to the game and won't be dressed in scarlet, and if so prove how you aren't a jerk for not doing so?

Devil's advocate: Wisconsin's primary color is red and whoever thought of a "scarlet out" for this particular game is a moron that doesn't need to be listened to.

Further devil's advocate: I will wear whatever the hell I want and I guarantee I will scream my ass off at an equal or greater level than 99.8% of the crowd, thus contributing to the atmosphere and home field advantage a billion times more than wearing a particular color would.

That said, when I go to home games I wear a home jersey, always have.

That said, I likely won't be in the stadium for this game so I really am just playing devil's advocate here.

I will take someone wearing white, red, gray, black, or some mix of the above who gets loud and involved in the game over someone who takes a bath is scarlet paint and sits on their hands the whole game.

Scarlet Stadium. Scarlet Stadium. Scarlet Stadium.
An entirely scarlet Ohio Stadium is the goal next Saturday vs. Wisconsin

Oct. 19, 2011

COLUMBUS, Ohio - An entirely scarlet Ohio Stadium - call it a "Scarlet Out" - will be one of the numerous promotions and activities at what will be a packed and rocking Ohio Stadium Saturday, Oct. 29, when the Ohio State Buckeyes host the No. 4 Wisconsin Badgers in an 8 p.m. kickoff.

While things may turn black and blue on the field when these two heavyweights collide in a key Big Ten Conference Leaders Division matchup, the color of choice in the stands will be the prominent school color scarlet. The Ohio State Department of Athletics is encouraging all fans to dress warm, but to dress scarlet to show your pride for the team and to display a unity that only 100,000-plus fans clad in scarlet can accomplish.

Or find a cheaper red shirt and put it over your sweater. It is all about layering people.

Is the color of blood red???? So help out your typical Whisky fan get the scarlet out for the game!!! There now should be no excuse for someone not to be wearing something red....I am joking of course......

I'm pretty sure the answer to your original question is no. Reason being, if you happen to be wearing urine and blew, then jerk doesn't cut it. Complete f-ing tool probably doesn't even cut it. So really, it depends...but at a minimum, yes, you are a jerk, but from there the scale gets worse and worse.

I'm going to the game on Saturday and plan on wearing red. If others do not I'm not going to lose any sleep. With this said, it loses its luster when playing a team that features red in their team colors. It would look pretty freaking cool to see the whole stadium in red though, esp at night.

You only put 99.8% because you know i'll be there, so it's kind of hard to compete.

Also, as far as it being Wisconsin's primary color, to me it doesn't matter, I actually like it, because it drowns out any fans that might be brave enough to show for them. The noise will be obvious who everybody is wearing their colors for!

And furthermore, I feel like if everyone did wear scarlet, the odds of being louder are greater. A sea of scarlet would just make the fans, even those who are usually not the loudest, feel like more of a part of the game.

From past experiences around different stadiums I have been to, 'color' outs definitely help get the crowd be louder, for whatever reason.

I have to miss this game because of a golf trip. If I were going to the game, I'd be wearing red - but only because the cold-weather gear I have for games happens to be red. If it were instead gray, I'd be wearing gray.

The fashion police can stay out of my grill, thank you very much. I've always thought that Penn State's "white-outs" were juvenile and pointless.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Penn State, but that said when I was there in 2005 for that white out, it was anything but juvenile and pointless. It is still the most intimidating thing I've seen from a crowd. That whole place was crazy!

There are many many things we have over Penn State, but that is not one of them. But I am convinced our fan base is a lot more rabid than theirs, so I'm not sure why it has to be this way.

I would like to wear red, but it is going to be cold.

My only warm jacket is blue.

I also have a yellow scarf and gloves.

But seriously. Not that many people have red coats.

Just so we're clear...I lived the first 30 years of my life roughly trying to live that way. So....you're not saying that's wrong are you?

OSU doesn't play one epic game every 5-10 years. They have iconic clashes almost year.
