Too bad thakid lost a bet last week and isn't posting.

P.S. he still says he's gonna play for illinois.
He also says he still thinks Illinois is going to win the Big Ten. That was before today though. His stupidity has no boundaries so I'm sure today's loss has left him unfazed.
Oh yeah, he's also already said he thinks Illinois will win the Big Ten in basketball this year. Yeah, he was serious.

Oh, I know. I've read it. :slappy: There isn't a more delusional fan, of any program, on the internet.

May either be a rumor or the obvious; several folks online reporting that Illinois is looking to remove Zook in the coming weeks.
I can't believe I'm going to defend Ron Zook, but he's about the ceiling for Illinois football. I don't know who they think they could possibly hire that could win there, unless the top of their list is Glen Mason.

I'll put it this way: The best coach (by winning %) Illinois has employed in the last 99 years was John Mackovic, and the only reason he left with a winning record was because he was smart enough to parlay Illinois into a gig at Texas.

Indiana - Bill Mallory
Minnesota - Glen Mason
Illinois - Ron Zook

Careful what you wish for Illini because you might not like what a post Zook world really looks like.

Edit - Decided to look up the comparative numbers...

Pre: 77-134-3 36.68%
Mallory: 69-77-3 47.32%

Pre: 86-134-3 36.24%
Mason: 64-57 52.89%

Pre: 103-123 45.67%
Zook: 28-45 38.36%
Post: ?

You know what I'm going to retract my earlier statement. Mallory & Mason both performed well above what their respective schools had accomplished over the 20 years prior to their arrival.

Zook is actually performing slightly below the standard in Champaign.

-Illinois is going to start churning out a lot of pro prospects...very Miami esque. Starting with the 2009 NFL Draft. Vontae Davis, "barring injury or just a horrible campaign is a 1st round pick", Will Davis (Could be another with the really big year some are expecting), Xavier Fulton (Tons of upside...just starting playing LT last year...), etc. are just some of the names for next year. It REALLY takes off with the 2010 NFL Draft (Benn, Wilson, etc.) and after.

-Illinois will win the B10 and go to a BCS this year, setting up a HUGE 2009 when they win it again and win a NC. I can also see them not winning the B10 this year, but I doubt it. I think Illinois will just be too fast, too hungry (ESPECIALLY after that Rose Bowl...a lot of players are as hungry as you can imagine), too tough, too aggressive as well as disciplined for a lot of teams. Any game where they could be unusually undisciplined, they can win just by talent and hunger IMO. I definitely have them winning the B10 and NC (Well I should change that and just say I think they will be undefeated in 2009...you never know how things could go in the BCS...).

-Illinois will become a national power in the next 5-10 years.

That is basically the sum of what I think...
This just cannot be bumped enough.
