So what do you think of this strategy? Was it a go from the time our AD was hired? After Ohio State and UM pick off the cream, will the remaining talent pool provide a lot of what we need? Will we eventually compete for the best? Will this complement our detract from our in state recruiting?

They're good in Ohio...as for OSU and Michigan "picking off the cream", I don't think you can say that when the best DE in Ohio is committed to the Illini, as well as two top DB's and a potential stud at OL in Schmidt. I also like DiLauro down the line as he bulks up.
The "best DE" in Ohio is NR ** D.J. Smoot of Groveport, who apparently holds no other notable offers. The "two top DBs" are *** CBs Caleb Day (#61 CB nationally), and Reon Dawson (#77, not offered by scUM or tOSU). The "potential stud OL" is ** #101 T Austin Scmidt (other offer Central Michigan). The only one who tOSU sniffed around was Day, but I thought there were grade issues with him, correct? So, yeah, cleaning up.

Wow, he's on fire in this thread...can't even manage to copy & paste all of his nonsense. Long story short, he doesn't care about who tOSU & scUM are offering when claiming they're having their way with Ohio because of, essentially, Whitney Mercilus. Says the illini have better players. When challenged about success on the field, he counters with "well, we almost won a lot of those games!". Moral victories! :slappy:

I doubt it. The DB's are just that (And they will be great). They're in on a lot of playmakers on offense, many of whom haven't decided or won't for a while. I wouldn't worry about any part of recruiting, but I especially wouldn't be worried about offense because they're going to get some studs (I can guarantee you that with Beatty and Gonzales recruiting). We just have to be patient to find out who it is.
This is the tune he's been singing for 4 months now. I know it's early, but they have exactly ONE player currently ranked higher than 34th nationally at their position. One. Their commit list reads like this: 40, 67, NR, NR, 34, 61, 77, 101, 34, 46, 7, 47, 96, 68, 67. That's a MAC recruiting class. They may end up plucking a couple of **** kids, but looking at what they've done thus far, well, nostradumbass is still the best thing on the internet.

See the problem is Kid that no matter who we get you'll say they are the best in the city. Let's flip it and say we got those 24 players ranked below and Notre Dame got the players we got, you would tell us that we clearly had the best talent from Chicagoland. Until you become more objective no one can ever take anything you say as credible.

Also you always bring up the few times you're correct. What about the other times? Where are our national Championships, Big Ten titles, 15 first round draft picks and multiple rose bowl victories? Next year right?

Oops! In response to kid's claims that the illini have been holding serve in Chicago the past several years. Kid never addresses that, BTW.

Isn't he in his early twenties by this point? I ask because there's no way a person with normal intelligence over the age of 15 thinks this way about his team. I'd lay 10/1 odds his IQ doesn't break 85.

TheKid and RutgersAL are the two most optimistic posters in the history of the interent. The cups never half full with TheKid, its always overflowing. So they got some Ohio boys that nobody else wanted it seemed but to TheKid they're all americans in waiting. Whatever he has to do to rationalize what can only be called an epic failure in state, so much talent, non to UoI.

With Treadwell bing a hevy scUM lean and the two three stars not listed going out of state Illinois will only get one out of the states top ten. Going 0-4 on that epic o-line class and the top rated back in the country has got to sting like crazy.

No, this did not come from the Onion. Illini coaching staff really has gone to Slappy Valley:

One of the provisions in the sanctions levied against Penn State on Monday allow all current players to transfer penalty-free.
It appears Tim Beckman and the University of Illinois are prepared to pounce on those possible-transfer students.....
"Our players are in our building right now and they don?t want to leave the building because there are coaches from other schools in the parking lot waiting to see them," Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien told ESPN on Wednesday.
Reports indicate a group of six coaches were spotted on the parking lot carrying University of Illinois bags and suitcases.
Illinois assistant athletic director Kent Brown acknowledged a group of Illini coaches were on Penn State's campus to recruit "a player or two" maybe more."

Am I the only one that thought this was a bit creepy to read? Is Illinois a stage five clinger waiting for you after practice?

With all of the PSU entertainment I forgot about our good ole friend ThaKid...

Really like Jones and Wilbon. Two four star guys and I hope they can get them on board soon. This thing could turn into a dynasty.
Don't you typically have to win SOMETHING in order to start a dynasty?

I have a feeling that your stance will change very soon. They are ready for the prime time and led by some prime time players, including the best playmaker in the country (Probably the best player), Terry Hawthorne.
LMAO. I don't even have words... Hawthorne was honorable mention All Big Ten. Honorable mention.

That's pretty tame for him. I'm actually fairly convinced he's either:

a) a total parody troll

or

b) a slow adult

the best playmaker in the country (Probably the best player), Terry Hawthorne.
Terry Hawthorne amassed 76 all purpose yards last year. 39 yards of that, and his only TD, came on an INT return in a meaningless bowl game against a 6-7 UCLA team. So in the regular season Hawthorne piled up 37 yards and 0 points in 12 games if you add up all his fumble, INT, and punt returns.

Best playmaker in the country, folks.

Here's what I said on Scout just yesterday:

Hawthorne is going to turn out the best DB in Illini history which is crazy considering the soon to be best CB in the NFL (Vontae Davis), just left a few years ago. It's because Hawthorne isn't just an elite level player, but but his playmaking skills are just special. Again, we'll just see how it plays out. Assuming there are no injuries or nothing unforeseen, this will be the best defense in the country.

I wouldn't be surprised at all with a B10 title and an undefeated season though. They have the talent in place to do it. Again, we'll see. But I still stand by my statement and I'm taking Hawthorne over anybody in the nation.

I'm not even going to respond to the rest of this clownish post but I'll say this...if Terry Hawthorne isn't a 1st round pick, I'll never post on an Illini sports board again.

Braxton Miller will be struggling to find open receivers on October 15th...you'll see!
