Impending Assistant Coach Vacancies

One of the most important things Meyer spoke about when first hired, and something with which he had varying degrees of success, was the need for staff alignment. To me, that's paramount for Day when making this hire. Whoever the guy may be, they're going to need to align philosophically with Mattison. Otherwise, you end up with seasons like 2013 (Withers & Fickell) and 2018 (Schiano & Grinch).

Re: Freeman

Wouldn’t we need someone with DB chops?

or is that assuming Washington is leaving.
The thought is:
IF Freeman were to come to OSU, Barnes could do ST and DBs a la Coombs
or
IF Coombs were to come, he could be co-DC/DBs, and leave Washington with the LBs

Will he be focused enough to help or will he be a hindrance with everything he needs to do at BC?
And I would think he'd be very focused on the Buckeyes. Just think of how it would look as the new HC at BC is also a National Champion after 1 year on he job. Sounds great to board and boosters(I'm sure they have a few) in Boston

I see that. But he had his money and contract..so his allegiance is BC now. He has to be thinking coaches recruiting office staff Strength and Conditioning transfer portal etc

It is also a chance for him to get experience against the top team in his new conference
That won't matter, Hafley won't have close to the talent at BC that he has now. He can have the Clemson playbook, Lawrence can tell him the play that is about to be run, and BC would still get blown out

You could say the same about Herman in 2014. I doubt coaches will try and burn bridges with high profile programs. Hafley doesn't know if he could be the OSU HC down the road or not, or ruin a relationship by mailing it in. AD's all over watch for things like this. The way Manny Diaz did Temple, if/when he flames at Cryami, he will fall quite far based on how he deserted Temple
