Iowa football: Hawkeyes LB coach Seth Wallace named as defendant in discrimination lawsuit, per report

Iowa football linebackers coach Seth Wallace was added as a new defendant in a discrimination lawsuit filed by former Hawkeyes players, according to ESPN. The ex-players allege they faced discrimination and harassment because they are Black.

In the new filing, the former players allege Wallace harassed, bullied and belittled Black players because of their race, creating a racially hostile environment. Former players Aaron Mends, Brandon Simon, Javon Foy, Akrum Wadley, Marcel Joly, Jonathan Parker and Darian Cooper are plaintiffs in the case.

The lawsuit was filed in November 2020 and a trial is set for March 2023. The filing, which was first reported by the Cedar Rapids Gazette earlier this month, includes additional accusations against coach Kirk Ferentz and offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz. The group of players seek $20 million in compensation.

Iowa football announces new subscription-based NIL club

Several Iowa football players took to Twitter to unveil the Iowa City NIL Club, a new subscription-based platform that allows fans to directly support players on the Iowa football team. Several notable players posted images and videos on social media in conjunction with the reveal, including freshman defensive back Xavier Nwankpa.

“What’s up everyone, I’m Xavier Nwankpa and I’m excited to announce that my teammates and I are launching the Iowa City NIL Club, which allows fans to support all the players on our team and get access to players like never before,” Nwankpa said. “The access pass is your ticket to the club and includes a free meet and greet with the team and a member’s only tailgate this fall… We really appreciate the love and support. Go Hawks”.
.
.
.
According to The Gazette, fans can buy an annual subscription for $199. There will be around 2,000 passes available in the month of July.
In exchange, those that buy a pass will get exclusive access to a members-only forum, different in-person events including meetups with players and a tailgate and access to player-made content, including videos. The Club’s official website also confirms that proceeds from subscriptions will be split equally among players from the football team.

Iowa is not the first program to have a subscription-based club centered around NIL. Both Minnesota and Michigan State have their own organizations, with the Twin Cities NIL Club and East Lansing NIL Club, respectively.

I have never met an Iowa football fan.
From what I gather from these boards, they seem to be good people. Opposing fans enjoy their time in Iowa City, Iowa U is a good school...etc.
(it's certainly nothing like Happy Valley or Madison is what I am implying).

However, as mild mannered and good natured as they might be, there has to be a breaking point for this shit right? Somebody has to demand better.

If I’m reading that right…

Are we supposed to believe that Iowa has all 4 of the ties in those situations? For their opponents in those games to not also be credited with a tie in that situation, then they must not have been in that situation, meaning that those four opponents gained more than 170 yards

I find all of that very hard to believe

If it’s true, let’s shut them out, hold them to < 150 and kick their ass

Edit: let’s do that anyway

Both I and my brother and many of the people I’ve met at alumni game-watches in dozens of cities have had horrible experiences with Hawkeye fans. One state over from Nebraska fans, who are legendary, and they are Happy Valley West

Pretty sure it’s a troll account from an Iowa St fan. The fact the statement sounds credible is what makes it funny.

Fair enough. I believe you.
I guess they are so isolated I don’t hear shit

Yeah - go to the Penn State boards. Of course, Penn State fans think that their team should be the most beloved team this side of the galaxy, so any shit you talk about their football program makes them hate you. Most Penn State fans seem to complain about Iowa fans more than any other, except maybe Ohio State fans. But I think most of the complaints they have about Ohio State can be summed up with, "Waah! The Buckeyes beat us again, and their fans told me that they won the game. What dick-holes they are!" (Same fanbase that thinks that their fans are perfect and the ones behaving badly are just Pitt fans in disguise.)

Me thinks the butthurt in Happy Valley is centered on the fact that Iowa and Michigan State frequently beat their ass. They entered the Big Ten under the notion that they would continue to dominate the way they did in the days of Syracuse, Pitt and nine schools with losing records on their schedule.

You're probably right that they're sad that they haven't dominated the way they thought they would. Of course, if you spend any time over there (DON'T DO IT - YOU'LL BECOME DUMBER!!!) you'll learn that they have a stat that proves to them that they got better, or their schedule got worse, when they joined the Big Ten. Something like, for any integer X between 1 and... maybe 7, their records were better X years after they joined the Big Ten than for X years before joining the Big Ten. X just happens to be a small number because that's where their stats no longer support their argument. But you're right - they aren't happy that Iowa and Sparty keep beating them. And they REALLY don't like it when you hand the ball off to an offensive lineman and he runs for something like 15 yards for a touchdown. (Not a trick play, either - they just lined a lineman in the backfield and handed off to him.) HAHA. See if I can find it. I suppose that goes into the Penn State thread... meh.

But I still think that it is centered on the fact that they are a cult who loves their leader, and bought into his ideals and "Grand Experiment" and all the other things. And anyone who doesn't is evil. Joe was pure good, and to not like him with 100% of your soul is to not like a perfect good. And, by extension, Penn State and State College is their Mecca. And if you don't plan to make your pilgrimage to pay your respects, you are flawed. So if you say anything bad about Penn State, its players, the town, the university, the team, the coaches (current or past, excluding O'Brien, I think, since he left before he died), then you're evil, and they want you to be off their planet.

I think a lot of complaints about Ohio State fans boils down to “we walked past a house with a yard full of drunk students who were mean to us.”

I haven’t actually looked, but I doubt many other schools, if any, have dense residential student housing on three sides of campus.

If you’re unfortunate enough to park where you need to walk through a gauntlet of house parties to get to the stadium, you’re probably going to have an interesting experience at the very least, and a bad one if you’re dumb enough to try to engage a yard full of drunk students.
