Iowa @ tOSU, Sat Oct 22, 12pm, FOX

Blake ran 26 times for 105 yds, or 4 ypc.

Trey ran 11 times for 38 yds, or 3.5 ypc.

But the final 2 minutes saw Michigan need to score more than 20, so Blake got 3 more carries for 28 yds and a TD, raising his average to 4.75.

The real question is how did Michigan give up that many yards to Petras.

Petras has by far his best game this season against scUM.

their secondary is not good, if the pass rush isn’t getting there they are extremely beatable. We saw that exposed in the playoff game against UGA. It’s basically the same guys minus the best member of that group.

Still rewatching

this game was about adjustments

On Ohio State’s first touchdown drive, the Buckeyes ran the ball very successfully

Iowa immediately adjusted

Thereafter, they showed their usual Tampa 2 when they first lined up, but AFTER the Buckeyes turned away from the sideline, having received the final call, the Hawkeyes brought a safety into the box and moved the other to the middle of the field. They did this on almost every first down and on every running down thereafter except for short yardage. Whether the coverage was single high, cover 3, or quarter-quarter-half varied.

They also frequently brought a corner or safety blitz, and on running downs, including all first downs, the linebackers began moving toward their gap responsibility immediately at the snap.

CJ remained a little out of sync until the 3rd possession of the 3rd quarter. Iowa’s strategy kept it from being a blowout exactly as long as he was out of sync.

Getting him in sync, in my opinion, was predicated on throwing the ball on first down.

Ohio State’s 2nd half possessions

First possession:
Interception

2nd possession:
End around on 1st down for 4 yards
Henderson tackled for loss on 2nd down - stacked box run blitz
Severe defensive holding not called
Punt

3rd possession:
Pass on every first down
Touchdown

4th possession:
Two Henderson runs (into stacked box - run blitz) net a first down (anyway). Running game adjusted to get what we needed.
long pass to Fleming on first down because their corner (with NO safety help because of the 9 man box) was in no danger of covering #4
Touchdown

5th (and CJ’s final) possession:
Pass on every first down
Touchdown
Running plays on that drive:
QB sneak
Henderson for 2 on 4th and 1
End around for 6 or 7 yards

after this it was all backups

The one running play that was disappointing was the tfl for Henderson on the 2nd possession on 2nd and 1, but considering the defensive call… stuff happens

Apart from that can anyone point out the opportunity for rushing yards that was missed?

I don’t see it

Iowa adjusted
Ohio State adjusted and dominated

End of story
This is the kind of stuff we should be featuring on the front page

I appreciate this on a number of levels:

First of all you're one of the people that has no qualms about busting my chops when I deserve it. You seem to just call them as you seem them, so coming from you "It just means more"TM

Second, when I think about the way I often post... I think that guy, whichever BKB he is, is not worthy to be on the front page. A chance to assess one's self is always a good thing.

Finally, it made me reassess those posts (something I frequently do anyway as I am a firehose of typos). I found that I missed a possession, so I edited the post.

Thanks

I was thinking about that game on Saturday evening thinking we were just off in something. Players, coaches....something was off. Reading your posts made it apparent that it was neither. It was good coaching from the other team, with good players on one side of the ball......and even better coaching by our guys to make adjustments. That's very reassuring going forward.

Self deferential elitist prick:pissed:

Edit: I never go to the front page, so this might give me a reason to change my bookmark link:lol:

I mean do you want to have that on the front page as a kind of weekly analysis plus fun stats?
