Is it worth going to the Illinois game?

I have the chance to go to the Illinois game, but there's a lot of hoops to jump through in doing so. I've only been to one game (Miami, OH 2005 @ The Shoe) in my life. I'm hoping to get some tix to another home game this year. So... I want to go, who would pass up the chance to see the Bucks, right? But... vs. Illinois? I can't imagine it's going to be much of a game.

I'm kind of leaning towards saving the money and trying for Penn St., or THE Game. What do you think? Need a little help. Thanks!

There is a significant portion of the population that would give almost anything to be able to see one Big Ten game of any kind in person...let alone one in our beloved stadium with our team, our band, and 100,000 screaming fans. Conference games are NEVER gimmies either...even if the opponent is weak, and Illinois has stuck it to us before (and no, they won't this time, but that's beside the point  )

NEVER turn down a Big Ten game in person if you have the means and availability to go...each one is a great life experience, regardless of the outcome.

I thought Illinois was an away game this year. (maybe I'm misinterpreting that portion of your quote)...In any case I get the meaning of what you're saying. I'd jump on an chance you get to see our Buckeyes in person, especially during a season that could turn out to be one of those truly special years. Grab the tix, then let any other possibilities work themselves out.

:oh: :io:

Illinois is a great road trip. The campus is pretty decent, the stadium is nice, getting in and out of the game is a breeze, the Illini fans are usually very friendly (unless you're a drunken ass but that kinda goes without saying), and the bars the night before are awesome. Don't pass up the opportunity to attend a game there.

There is nothing better than going to a home game in our amazing environment but going on the road and hearing the OH--IO around an opposing teams stadium absolutely gives you chill bumps. I am going to head up to the Ill game this year. You should be able to buy tickets from the Ill athletic site. I went to the NW game back in 04' and that was an amazing time. Chicago bars don't close till 4:00 AM and the fans treat you great. The local bars around their dry campus had "Welcome OSU fans"; which is something you would never see in the Cbus, AA, EL, Wisky, SC. Again, no worries about finding tickets, it's still like a home game, and you get to check out a new stadium and campus. You can drink on the El train out of Chicago to Walker Stadium and I am pretty sure you can do the same to Ill. The Ill and NW stadiums gives you the oppurtunity to visit another Big10 stadium without dealing with any hassles at all. I say go if you have the oppurtunity. Make a weekend out of it and live it up in Chi-Town!

I took my wife to her first Ohio State game at the Horseshoe two years ago when Wisconsin came to town. Other than being eye-witnesses to the day Ted Ginn Jr. 'arrived,' that game was hardly a great life experience.

Well ... it pretty much sucked, actually. :wink2:

Its safe to say that I would love to attend any Buckeye game this year. However I won't have the oppurtunity. The only game within driving distance is the UT game and I can't really afford $500 dollar tickets(as low as I've seen them). Attend the Illinois game for me.

I hear you, but watching the Buckeyes lose at the Shoe is still better than 90% of the other things you could be doing.

And sorry, I was just reacting to the first post, not even thinking about the schedule, or the fact he could have been talking about an away game :!

My late wife and I went to the 2002 Illinois game in Champaign-Urbana. That's one of my great memories. The overtime was thrilling.

I've tried to go to at least one game a year since. If you have a chance to see the Buckeyes in person, anytime, anywhere, take it.
