Is Jim Bollman filling out the Coach's ballot?

Since you brought up the play calling, was anyone else surprised at the play calling on Saturday? I was astounded....I mean, I know Tress likes to call a conservative game, but that was ridiculous. Once Smith came in, I thought to myself, "Ok, self, now we're finally gonna see what Smith can do. Given the game situation, we've gotta see more than the two passes he's thrown so far this year." And tOSU proceeded to run the ball. Up the middle. Again.

I had 4 friends over to my house, and every single one of us called the play (before tOSU ran it) for 3 straight series. We rarely disagreed, and at least 3 of us were right every single play.

The announcers kept harping on how OSU needed to do something other than run it on 1st down. What drives me crazy is that we have games where it seems like they have a whole new playbook and other games it is like they have two plays to run.

And the problem is that he is still using the same 1AA scheme that worked at YSU. This is the big league of cfb, that mickey mouse scheme isnt working here.

All you have to do is listen to opposing teams talk about osu. Erasmus James pretty much summed up the entire inept scheme in two sentences. He stated that instead of sliding down the line following the OL, once they took a step in the opposite direction, they attacked the OL's outside shoulder (if the OL steps to his left, the DT attacks the OL's right shoulder). It allows for instant penetration. It also lends the appearance that te OL is too slow to get on their man, when in essence, the DL just attacks the fundamental weakness of the blocking scheme.

Lose the sidestep and get on your man right away. The notion of stepping opposite to gain leverage doesnt work.

I did undergrad at YSU and went to fb games there religiously for a lot of years. YSU won because they simply had more talent than anybody. NE Ohio/western Pa used to be the mecca of hs football talent, which allowed so many good players to fall through to programs like ysu.

Despite Pittsburgh's impressive win against Boston College, it appears coach Walt Harris is closer than ever to being fired at the end of the season. Harris' agent, Bob LaMonte, blasted the Pitt administration the week before the B.C. game, saying Pitt hadn't publicly supported Harris and should let him go to pursue other opportunities if it wasn't committed to keeping him. Two things are clear: 1) LaMonte wouldn't have ripped the Pitt administration without Harris' approval--saying school officials are "delusionary" if they think Pitt is a major program that can get a major coach; 2) unless Pitt wins the Big East and plays in a BCS bowl, Harris' eight-year run will be over at the end of the season.

I would make every effort to get walt harris back here. he may be fired from pitt come the end of the year, and its quite apparent he isnt happy there. perhaps they could give him a ceremonial title like assistant HC, like tucker's "co-defensive coordinator".

As painful as this is watch, I'm willing to let JT be the coach I've always thought he is and lead us through this adversity, and maybe the quick fix of hiring a new OC is not the obvious answer we all think it is.

actually he learned this with the bears, when he was theri te coach

and erasmus james, seriously do you watch ohter games, he is the best down lineman in the b10 and hawthorne is first team all conference

what we are seeing is pathetic and anemic, but i think maybe you need to watch some more football

Erasmus James simply pointed out what every team hgas done to osu this year to stifle our offense. Do you think he and wiscy were the only ones to do this to osu? Look at Chicago's offensive production during Bollman's tenure. it certainly doesnt support his cause. chi doesnt use that scheme anymore. you will not find but maybe a handful of teams at any level that use the sidestep technique. Perhaps you should watch more football to realize what Erasmus James said is what every team has done to osu, including NW, Marshall, and Iowa. You don't end up 111th in offense simply because of bad execution.
