Is it just me, or is the sudden use of this word some sort of far-reaching conspiracy? I swear I've never seen it before this week, and suddenly the word count is approximately equal to "the."

People have to stop using that word. It makes me want a sammich.

Canonical has revealed the style of the new default theme that will be used in Ubuntu 10.04, the next major version of the popular Linux distribution. In a significant departure from tradition, Ubuntu is shedding its signature brown color scheme and is adopting a new look with a palette that includes orange and an aubergine shade of purple.

Ubuntu's distinctive brown look dates back to the very first version of the distribution, which was released in 2004. Although the style has evolved considerably since then and new colors like orange gradually gained a foothold in the desktop palette, brown has been the dominant color of Ubuntu's default themes for the past five years.

This is nice I guess, maybe to make users feel like it's a new version? The thing with Gnome is you can configure it to look however you want, so this doesn't really seem that big of a deal.

They probably aren't aiming the change at people that already use Ubuntu. The first thing I do every time I load Ubuntu is change the theme and background away from the Browns colors.

So, I am checking out gnome shell, the latest version of Gnome. So far, I am pretty impressed, it's really basic and simple to use and still makes a lot of space on the desktop. It's not windows, it's not mac, it's different.
