Looking at the seasons total stats and trying to take it with a grain of salt but its not like we haven't seen some of this stuff before:

135.5 rushing ypg
183 passing ypg
318.5 total ypg

Defense is getting it done and won't play an offense that good again in the regular season. 19.5 ppg and 340 total ypg and if you take out the 2 td's to Miami by the 2nd string its 12.5 ppg.

I totally agree with all of those who say its early and its a small sample size. You all know how I feel about those.

My point is simply that the low 300 ypg for the offense pattern is a reoccurrng one that crosses over a lot of time and personnel changes so you do have to give it some thought. We can't sit there and say "yeah but this guy was hurt" or "we changed our style in this game" or whatever.

Now again, we won't play many if any defenses that good again this regular season so the offense may very well open back up a bit but seeing those old familiar numbers just made me start thinking.

ohio state will convincingly win the remainder of the games this year. iowa, and michigan are both down, michigan state is a good football team, but our defense will shut down their offense.

tressels teams always play better as the season goes along, we hung with one of the best if not the best team in the country last night, we easily couldve escaped with a win, maybe by as much as 10 points. playing texas is a great experience for the players too, it makes you a tougher and smarter football player, they wont play a team like that for the rest of the regular season, the buckeyes will roll through the big 10 without being challenged.

i think our team will look at this loss and view it as a positive in some ways, im sure after how hard they played without winning the game, they will come out every game left, and physically dominate and stop making mistakes.

I don't think it is fair to take an average over two games when one was against a D like Texas and take that is an indicator.

I do agree that JT will continue to call plays conservatively when he thinks he can manage the game via punt exchanges and Defense no matter what offensive weapons we have.

I also do not believe we have proven we have a running game. But good pitching stops good hitting and not many folks are going to run against Texas this year.

I agree, was just bringing up the fact i see our old friend Mr. 300 yds total offense again and it got me thinking.

SDSU is a real good opponent to be coming in here to pad some of those #'s :wink2:

What!! We don't have a running game. Pittman averaged 5 yards a carry against a DL that was supposedly the best in CFB!!!

We are going to kill teams in the B10. There is not a team on our schedule that has a player like VY. We held Texas to 2.9 yards a carry. Our defense is one of the top 5 in the country and best in the B10. Yep thats right we have the best defense in the conference.

Pick a QB and stick with him. Get more creative in the red zone.

I predicted Texas would score 21. I was disappointed in the offense. I expected us to score over 30. We had the ball inside the 35 7 times and only scored 1 TD. Texas has a good defense but geez thats simply pathetic.

What Texas did on offense didn't suprise me one bit. Its out offense that was the unpleasant suprise. If Tressel truly opens the offense we are going to kill people.

And in a roundabout way thats exactly what I was getting at when I said its been over a span of different players and situations.

I don't think its a talent or scheme isssue. I think as long as JT is here we are always going to be having these type of discussions but thats said i wouldn't trade him or his style for any coach in America.

Very interesting point (although the official stat is 4.4 yards). Pittman did have some effective carries and I didn't look at his stats til I read your post. I came away from the game without a sense of having a consistent running game. And when you look at 17 carries we didn't use him much - certainly not in the tradition of an OSU running game.

FWIW here are his carries:

5, 1, 1, 14, 5, 0, 7, 4, 2, 17, 1, 5, 0, 4, 9, 0, 0

More than half those carries were for 2 yards or less.

I can't stop thinking about how many opportunities we had to score and how well their defence stopped us.I believe our Offence would have scored on many teams here, but not Texas. I think one thing was clear and that is the Longhorn D was better than ours when it counted. They simply made big plays when it counted against our D. We did not make all the crucial 3rd down conversions: they stopped us too many times. One weakness for us seems to be pass D. But again Texas is the best that we will see. I think though your premise here is off about The "O". Instead think pass D and only one QB for the O. Lets not jump ship just yet.

I don't understand why we didn't go downfield more with or passing yesterday, but that's water under the bridge. If Hamby catches the TD slant, we score 26 points against one of the nation's toughest defenses, and that's while not passing downfield often. With the penalties, dropped balls, and "safe" offense, 255 yards isn't bad against a solid defense. The thing that really was painfully obvious was that when Smith was in, you could bet the house he was either going to hand it off or do a QB draw, and Texas knew that. We have too many weapons to be so predictable.

Our first-team defense is still solid, giving up zero points to Miami and 23 points (can't count the safety) to Texas. They just need to keep from giving up the big plays (like that 63-yard pass to Pittman).

Texas has a great defense but I feel like the play calling had something to do with the lack of offense. How is it possible that your 2 best play makers have as few touches as Ginn and Holmes did last night. That needs to change and part of it is settling on one QB so they can get into a rhythm on offense. I think we found our running back if Pittman can stay healthy he looked really good. I think if Tressel picks a QB and keeps the offense more open like Miami (OH) we will be very hard to beat with our defense this year.
