Jack "The Golden Bear" Nicklaus (18 Time Professional Major Champion)

One could argue parity in golf is much better now than it was back in Jack's day but then again... Jack was hitting with clubs that had a sweet spot about the size of a dime or smaller.... nowadays the sweet spot of a club is atleast a half dollar size....

when it gets up to the size of a man hole cover I may have a chance

The hole or the sweet spot???

Just for the record, I don't dislike Tiger per say, but the talking heads and media looked at only one measure and named Tiger the greatest ever. The real stats don't lie. Further, Jack played against a much tougher field than Tiger faced during his great run.

Two totally different eras, not just in equipment design, but in the quality of the field and the level of scrutiny too. I don't recall Augusta or the PGA trying to "Jack-proof" courses specifically to rob him of all of his strengths while he was in his prime.

For all his successes, and despite the sin of marital infidelity, Tiger was challenged with exceeding an impossible standard. Credit to him, he never shied away from it, but I always felt the deck was stacked against him from about 2001 on.
