Jadeveon Clowney (DE Carolina Panthers)

Clowney looking at visiting five

JC Shurburtt, 247Sports

None of the dates are currently set, but Jadeveon Clowney says that he?s close to finalizing his five official visits.

"Alabama, South Carolina, Ohio State, and LSU all will definitely get an official visit," Clowney said.

Clowney's coach, Bobby Carroll, said that Florida State was the other school that would get an official visit from Clowney, and also confirmed the other four schools were definitely getting ones at this point as well. Clowney added that Clemson was the sixth school still in the mix.

Clowney currently is leaning toward making a decision on National Signing Day, though he has also mentioned making a verbal commitment at the Under Armour All-American Game on Jan. 5.

Clowney has an overall rating of 105 and is the first prospect in the history of 247Sports to receive the "Franchise Player" rating. He and offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha), who has a rating of 102, are the two prospects that have that rating this season.

Crimson Tide Recruiting Targets

JADEVEON CLOWNEY - DE

The Gamecocks seem to have the momentum as Clowney is getting a ton of in-state pressure to stay in-state and Clowney's family prefers Clowney stay close to home. Alabama isn't out of it and Clowney is still keeping the lines of communication open with the UA coaching staff despite rumors to the contrary, but the Tide has some catching up to do after once appearing to be in good shape.

Ten out of ten rating for size, speed and strength. Would be a starter right away at DE. Can support run just as well as pass rush.

Nation's No. 1 prospect Jadeveon Clowney alters favorites

Five-star Under Armour All-American defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (Rock Hill, S.C./South Pointe) has made a switch on his list.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound prospect has added Miami-FL and eliminated LSU from contention, according to the Post and Courier.

South Carolina, Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State are also under consideration for official visits.

It is believed that the Gamecocks and Crimson Tide are out in front for his signature.

Right now, South Carolina has a 'Brew Crew' working this class...they snared Brandon Shell last weekend and are now focused on Clowney.

If he goes anywhere beside South Carolina, I will be surprised.

Definitely trust your info :) Thanks man

Not doubting it. He is on his official visit this weekend according to Palmetto Sports:
Clowney making official visit to USC this weekend

This weekend, South Carolina may also pick up a commitment from 4-star LB and Army All-American selection, Lateek Townsend.

Lateek may be a little sour today after Marlboro County got bounced by Cane Bay last night 28-27. That's gotta hurt.

Clowney wraps up USC visit

By Phil Kornblut
DE Jadeveon Clowney of South Pointe has finished his official visit to USC and returned to his home in Rock Hill. Clowney left Columbia around 3:00 after meeting with several Gamecock coaches including head coach Steve Spurrier. "It went well," Clowney said of the visit. "Academics stood out the most. My conversation with coach Spurrier was about the same as always. He just talked me joining the team." Clowney did not commit and he said he will make more official visits. He's been considering Alabama,, Ohio State, LSU and Florida State for other trips. Clowney said he doesn't have a favorite.

Free Rivals - Top 10: Physical specimens

2) DE Jadeveon Clowney

School: Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe
Buzz: Clowney's nickname is "Doo Doo" from childhood, but "The Condor" might be a better moniker. Clowney looks bigger than listed, has a very strong and thick lower body and long arms that allow him to cover a ton of ground. If you're building a defensive end from scratch, Clowney would be a good one to copy. Once he adds more weight, he'll be a 290-pound Mario Williams clone early in his college career.

Nation's top defensive ends - Football's Second Season

1. Jadeveon Clowney is a 6-6, 240-pounder from Rock Hill, S.C., who is the No. 1 or No. 2 player in the nation, depending on whom you believe at the moment. He is a high school version of Mario Williams, the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft three years ago. Clowney is so gifted that he even played tailback recently. He had 26 sacks last season. He has long arms, exceptionally quick feet and great athleticism. South Carolina leads Alabama in his recruiting. He has the potential to be the best pass rusher in the last few years.
