Under Armour All-American linebacker Jordan Hicks (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West), the No. 2 prospect on the ESPNU 150, is getting closer to selecting a college.

Hicks made official visits to Ohio State, Florida and Texas. He has decided against visiting USC and Alabama.

Hicks and his mother, Kelly Justice, will spend this week with family. Next week Hicks leaves for Orlando, Fla., and the Under Armour All-American Game, which will be played on Jan. 2 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.

After returning home in early January, Hicks expects in-home visits from Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and Florida coach Urban Meyer. Texas coach Mack Brown has already made his in-home visit with Hicks.

Justice said if all goes according to plan, her son will make his decision and announce it sometime in January. At this point Hicks is not sure exactly when that announcement will be or how it will be made.

As far as Under Armour All-American linebacker Jordan Hicks (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and Meyer's weekend announcements, it is a little harder to gage the impact.

Hicks, the No. 2 prospect on the ESPNU 150, has narrowed his choices down to Florida, Texas and Ohio State. He has made official visits to all three schools.

Hicks' mother, Kelly Justice, said she and her son were surprised on Saturday when they heard that Meyer was stepping down.

Upon hearing on Sunday that Meyer had reconsidered and was taking a leave of absence, Justice said in an e-mail that things are, "quite confusing, so we are just gonna let it play out and see what happens."

Hicks has been expecting early January in-home visits from Meyer as well as Ohio State coach Jim Tressel. Texas coach Mack Brown has already made his in-home visit with Hicks and his mother.

At least Florida is out of it. If this kid is open to Ohio State in any way..maybe we have a last second chance to pull him.

I'm definitely not betting on it though.

Not to get any hopes up, but with Florida potentially out of it and Mack Brown's visit out of the way, a late in home from JT could possibly pull of the upset. I know I'm always weary when the in-state coach comes in for a late in home visit when we are going after an OOS guy. I doubt it happens but at least the late in home is to our advantage.

Would love to see Hicks play at tOSU.....he is at a position that we develope well and the competition is fierce. Great athletes shouldn`t want it any other way....beat out the best to play, thats the way it is in the NFL and it shouldn`t be any different at a bigtime college. He could also shine at the star position at tOSU. With our solid recruiting classes the past few years there is no reason to think that we could be playing in some more national title games. Hicks is a rare talent that just seems to be a Tressel type of kid. Good student, grades and person. Go Bucks

Jordan is a kid that has always handled himself with a lot of integrity and class throughout the recruiting process... I hope he chooses the Bucks, but this is a kid that I'm going to root for regardless of where he plays his college ball.

Urban Meyer, Mike Leach sagas impacting schools' recruits - Andy Staples - SI.com

Jordan Hicks, a linebacker from West Chester, Ohio, who is considering Florida, Ohio State and Texas, said he didn't hear from any opposing coaches in the wake of the Meyer news, but he said Meyer's choice may alter the timetable of his final decision. "It really didn't change anything," Hicks said. "It's kind of put a hold on some stuff. I just want to wait it out and see how things are going to work out."

Dead period is misleading, you can talk to recruits during dead periods. Here is the definition....

"The college coach may not have any in-person contact with you or your parents at any time in the dead period. The coach may write and telephone you or your parents during this time."

On the 2nd, it'll switch to a Quiet Period.
