Josh Portis leaving Florida?

Just playing Tibor for a moment but did anyone ever stop and think maybe this kid just realizes he's getting a raw deal and is doing the best thing for himself? I didn't read anything that said he didn't like competition, I read that he felt it wasn't a fair competition.

The charachter assasination is a bit over the top imo.

None of us know the deatils of what goes on in the UF program but I've heard plenty from people who don't exactly care for Urbans style. If he was fucking with my kid's future you all would be comparing me to MoC's mom because I'd go after him in any shape or form I felt like doing it in.

OK I said my piece, you all can go on ripping on a teenager you don't even know now.

As if the kid is going to come out and say "I'm afraid of competition".

His mom said its due to a lack of playing time and chances to actually throw the ball during gameplay. Sounds to me like they think he'll never get a chance to play. Leading me to believe either:

A: He's not trying hard enough.
B: He mistook "A fair chance to play" for "You will play"
C: He figured he was the big man on campus before he got there and a rude awakening occurred.
or
D: His mom is controlling the situation by bitching.

I see two factors in this one...

One, the kid has watched the beating Leak took this year in Urban's Spread Option against SEC defenses. Leak hurt his draft prospects with his performance this year and actually looks scared at times.

Two, Tim Tebow is going to be a Gator.

Portis is doing the right thing...I'm just wondering if he will wait a year ala Brock Berlin or follow the other Gator QB Ingle Martin and head to D1AA.

Tebow is announcing this week, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe he added QB's up, and decided that it's time to move on. South Carolina received a commit from a QB today, don't know if that would affect his decision. Interesting to see where he ends up.

I think Urban is selling kids urban legend about being the number one pick in the draft. Portis looked a lot better running the offense than Leak in the Spring Game. I think Portis is better. Portis thinks he's better than Leak and that's probably why he's leaving. Probably just thinks the staff is shady because they won't play the best players. Regardless, it seems like a strange move on Portis's part.

Tebow doesn't look like he truly fits Urban's sheme so who knows. Urban isn't going to keep getting top classes for very long if he can't beat Ol' Ball Coach and 'Bama.

Former Florida QB Portis to transfer to Maryland

Former Florida quarterback Josh Portis has decided to transfer to Maryland, his mother, Patricia Portis, told ESPN's Joe Schad.

"That was one of his original choices and he likes Coach [Ralph] Friedgen," Patricia Portis said. "He'll be on campus January 2."

Portis played in six games this season and had mixed results. He was 6-of-11 passing for 81 yards with an interception. He also ran 29 times for 163 yards.

Portis, who initially committed to Utah before following Meyer to Gainesville, said he wanted to go where he could play.

"Even after wins, you feel sad inside because you're a great player and you want to be on the field," Portis told The Gainesville Sun two weeks ago. "How do you feel if someone says good game and you can't even help your team out?

"I don't like sitting on the sideline. I want to be on the field."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
