Joshua Shaw (official thread)

Probably one. Safety is more of a need than CB this year. I'm sure they are looking for versatility and how the Freshmen perform (CJ Barnett, D. Clarke, C. Brown) during fall camp.

I don't know, from what I've read Barnett/Brown could easily end up at Safety. Also it seems like OSU is in on more good corner prospects than safeties. One other thing to consider is that it is easier for a player to switch from CB to safety than vice versa. Obviously if all things are equal you go with the position of greater need. However, given the choice of a blue chip corner (such as Joyner, Shaw, Rodgers, etc.) and a pretty good safety prospect then you go with talent over need in my opinion.

BuckeyeGrove.com - AMP: Joshua Shaw names top five

Free video update from Rivals. Has a top 5 of USC, OSU, ND, Washington and Oklahoma. Plans to take all 5 visits before deciding, and will visit ND when they play USC. Also working on setting up an official to OSU for the USC game. Distance won't be a factor and wants to decide in December before enrolling early.

This kid seems genuinly excited for the Ohio State offer. He was also talking about making an un-official to OSU this summer, so the interest is legit. He would be a perfect compliment to a smaller corner like LJ...

I'm surprised no one else has noticed that 3 of his 5 officials look to include USC. That seems telling.

Do you think we have a good shot at pulling him away from SC?
A "good" shot? No. But the Buckeyes' do have a reasonable shot at this stage, which is all that you can ask. Shaw is scheduled to make an official visit to Ohio State on September 12th for the game against Southern Cal. We should know more - probably a lot more - after that visit.

Shaw mentioned in one of the rivals videos that he preferred going out of state, but SC is a big pull right in his backyard. If this kid decides to go out of state, it looks like it could be OSU or ND, more OSU than ND. Every year there's a couple of California DBs that verbal to midwestern schools, and Shaw could be that kid this year. Really like him at CB.
