FORMER USC KICKER PARKER LEWIS TRANSFERRING TO OHIO STATE
Dan Hope on April 29, 2022 at 3:00 pm @dan_hope

Ohio State has added another kicker through the transfer portal.

Former USC kicker Parker Lewis, who made 17 of his 22 field goal attempts and had touchbacks on 27 of his 34 kickoffs for the Trojans last season, announced his commitment to Ohio State on Friday.

Lewis, who was ranked as the No. 7 kicker in the recruiting class of 2020, has three remaining years of eligibility thanks to the additional year all players received due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Just askin': OK, if he doesn't beat out Ruggles, can he redshirt in 2022 and still have 3 years of eligibility left?

The addition of Lewis brings Ohio State back up to the limit of 85 scholarship players for the 2022 season as of Friday afternoon, two days before the deadline for players to enter the transfer portal and remain eligible to play this season.

Feeling like the portal kickers are saving scholarships

I have no inside knowledge here; however, bringing in Lewis on a scholarship could mean:

1) Day is not convinced that Ruggles will be back and wants an insurance policy.

and/or

2) Day is not sold on Seibert as the heir apparent to Ruggles.

Either way, if Seibert ends up behind Lewis in the placekicker pecking order, it wouldn't surprise me if Seibert eventually ends up in the transfer portal.

Whatever the case it's easier to back them up on a guy for 1 year than a freshman with a RS

I'll add:
3) Parker brought Dr. Pepper.
