Durant may play, but other young Sonics questionable

SEATTLE -- At least one of the SuperSonics' top-five draft picks appears ready to debut on time.
Kevin Durant, Seattle's second overall choice, moved fluidly while completing practice Monday, two days before the season opener at Denver. It was the first extensive basketball work for last season's national college player of the year since he sprained his left ankle in a preseason game Oct. 23.

Sonics ride Durant's 35 to first home win

SEATTLE (AP) -- It took a 19-year-old with his entire array of skills on display, and the wily experience of a 35-year-old veteran to finally get the Seattle SuperSonics a victory at home.
An unlikely combo? Sure, especially since Kevin Durant keeps reminding Kurt Thomas he's old enough to be his dad.

"He calls me young fella, I call him old fella," Durant said.

Durant, the Sonics' teenage star, scored 22 of his career-high 35 points in the second half, Thomas grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds and the Sonics beat the Indiana Pacers 95-93 on Friday night, becoming the final NBA team to win at home.

Sonics rookie feeling his way through NBA
By Johnny Ludden, Yahoo! Sports
December 11, 2007

SEATTLE ? The final horn sounded, the players began to walk off the court and somewhere in between Kevin Durant transformed back into a 19-year-old kid. He bounced on his heels like an oversized pogo stick, thumped his chest and let out a loud whoop.
Durant didn't care how silly he looked, and it wouldn't have mattered even if he did. His impromptu dance came in front of an audience of one: his mother.
This celebration wasn?t born from a victory by Durant's Seattle SuperSonics. Those have been all too rare this season. No, on this late November afternoon, Durant hadn't even pulled on his jersey, instead parking himself in front of a large-screen TV at home to watch his Texas Longhorns run over the Tennessee Volunteers.
Some 3,000 miles across the country in New Jersey, Texas coach Rick Barnes walked into the Longhorns' locker room and flipped open his cell phone. Waiting for him was a congratulatory text message from Durant.

Kevin Durant, left, has made a smooth transition to the NBA, averaging 19.9 points, best among rookies.

SEATTLE -- Kevin Durant used to be able to sit around with his family and watch movies on Christmas.
It was the one day in the middle of basketball season when he didn't have any practices, shootarounds, pregame scouting sessions or team meals to attend. Even last year as a college freshman at Texas, Durant was able to return home for Christmas and sit on his family's couch.
"We rarely got to hang out a lot because my mom worked and me and my brother went to school, then played ball, had practice and stuff like that," Durant said. "We just hung out."

Durant & Green: Rookies, teammates and friends

By Jayda Evans
Seattle Times staff reporter

Kevin Durant was oblivious to the glare from his fellow Sonics rookie.
"He sucks," Jeff Green said with a snarl while sitting in the KeyArena locker room.
Don't worry ? this isn't the final crack in the Sonics' house. Not another cause for fan unrest on top of a franchise-record, 14-game losing streak and owner Clay Bennett's attempt to move the team to Oklahoma City.
It's just more playful banter between two of the NBA's next stars.
As the story goes, Green is so gifted at playing "NBA Live" it's not even a competition with Durant, who, ironically, is a video-game cover boy.

Seattle SuperSonics guard Kevin Durant will be named NBA Rookie of the Year, the Seattle Times reported, citing two anonymous league sources.

Please Enjoy This Vine Of Kevin Durant Rolling Around On His Scooter, Set To ‘Ridin’ Dirty’

kevin-durant.jpg

So this is freakin’ depressing. Kevin Durant, one of the more likeable guys in the NBA, is rolling around on a scooter because of a leg injury. A leg injury that will likely keep him out for the first few months of the season.

To make everyone feel better, I remixed this sad moment with Chamillionaire’s “Ridin’ Dirty.”

Westbrook doesn't have his own thread so I'll put this hear:

He's a freak.

Edit: Four straight triple-doubles. First to do it since Jordan in '89. And three of those four (the last three) have consisted of 39, 40, and 49 points. Oh, and he can't shoot threes. Only 3/18. He's just such a freak athlete. Makes you sad what has happened to Rose.
