THAT CLAP BACK THO. I'm long past my online prime these days and don't like my odds against any savvy youth in an online squabble. But it gives me hope that Kevin Wilson is 59 years old and is still out here name-searching and clapping back at strangers.



On the flip side, I cannot imagine the glee John W. Creasy felt when he got that notification from Kevin Wilson replying to his Tweet about "liquid diarrhe (sic)."

Truly, we all win here.

Who is ready to give Kevin Wilson another shot?
Outside of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, the majority of the credit for elevating the Ohio State offense to another stratosphere has gone to Ryan Day — with good reason. But inside the facility, there is certainly plenty of appreciation to go around for Kevin Wilson as well. The offensive coordinator blended seamlessly with Day while bringing his own veteran experience and previous knowledge of running a program to the table, making Wilson an invaluable resource for a first-time head coach. That acknowledgment has been spreading around coaching-hire circles over the last couple seasons, though Wilson hasn’t been in a hurry to jump at any jobs that aren’t ideal fits for him since he’s well compensated by the Buckeyes and well settled with his family in Columbus. Eventually there will be an athletic director who looks at the infrastructure Wilson put in place at Indiana, his recruiting success and his undeniable offensive acumen and gives him another shot at the top.

Over a year ago (i.e. May 2020) Lettermen Row ran this article:

Sooner or later, Kevin Wilson will be running own program again

“I’d like to have the opportunity to go be a head coach again,” Wilson told Lettermen Row last year after the Rose Bowl. “I don’t know if that opportunity will present itself, and I’m not chasing it. I’ve got a sophomore in high school and I’d like to get him through high school, and we like where we’re at. But I think I’ve got a few really strong years left, and I just want to keep coaching ball.”

Just sayin': You have to wonder how long the all the negative stuff (i.e. his treatment of players) that came out when he was fired at Indiana hangs with him and/or is keeping him from being seriously considered for other head coaching vacancies. I'm guessing that he's probably unlikely to get any head coaching offers from any other Power 5 schools; and might not want to "step down" and be the head coach at a (much lesser) "mid major" school. Then of course at this stage in his career/life he may be perfectly happy being an OC at Ohio State making $1.4M per year and is not looking for a head coaching position (i.e. been there done that, much better job security as OC at Ohio State).

It's definitely going to take the right program to want to take a chance at Wilson as a HC. He has a great gig at OSU where he doesn't have much heat and can lay low. He's very talented but has a big red flag. But I could see a place like UC welcoming him when Fickell moves on, or a Mid level MAC school where he can repair his HC image away from the spotlight. I personally love what he's done with OSU and hope he doesn't leave until we get a few NCs

Somehow Akron has had a number of name hires over the years.. Jerry Faust (Moeller and ND); Lee Owens (OSU); Brookhart (Pitt); Ianello (ND) and Terry Bowden...
Guess it proves the adage.. "if you take on something.. take it on when it's really bad.. because improvement is so noticeable. Taking over for a superstar is not good because it's very difficult to match or do better"
