Judge drops Ole Miss player's lawsuit against Lane Kiffin

Ole Miss defensive tackle DeSanto Rollins' lawsuit against head coach Lane Kiffin and the university was dismissed Wednesday by Judge Michael P. Wills in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi, according to court documents.

Rollins filed a lawsuit against Kiffin and Ole Miss last September for failure to provide equal protection, racial and sexual discrimination and multiple other allegations. He said he was kicked off the team for missing practices and meetings during a "mental health crisis."

Rollins, who is still listed on the Ole Miss roster, alleged in his suit that Kiffin intentionally took adverse action against him "on account of race for requesting and taking a mental health break, but not taking adverse action against white student-athletes" for the same request. The suit alleged sexual discrimination on the basis that Ole Miss has not taken "adverse action against female student-athletes for requesting and taking a mental health break."

The suit also claimed Rollins was moved from defensive line to the offensive line (on the scout team) because he refused to enter the transfer portal and that Kiffin "maliciously, deliberately, intentionally, and in blatant disregard for the rights and health of Rollins verbally assaulted him" during a meeting on Feb. 27, 2023.

Rollins, whose career has been marred by injuries, told ESPN on Wednesday he plans to appeal the decision. He was seeking $10 million in compensatory damages and $30 million in punitive damages.

Attorneys for Kiffin and Ole Miss filed for the case to be dismissed in November and cited that the coach and university were "immune" from some of Rollins' claims and that his "remaining allegations fail to state a claim upon which relief can be granted."

Watson, Crick & A Twist
OK - Lane Kiffin has been named (reportedly) as the new Tennessee Head Coach (rate $2 Million - same as he earned at the Raiders).

As my wife joked on hearing this - "Street naming ceremonies to follow in Knoxville!"

Hence the Poll - with a name of Lane Kiffin what road name would be best?

Lane Kiffin Lane has such a nice ring to it.

I thought that he was getting more than what he was getting when he was with the Raiders. I thought in the story that I read he was going to get more than $2 mil. I did not know that his father was a defensive genius with Tampa Bay and supposedly will join him in Knoxville.

The Rivals story (Yahoo) made no mention of the payscale.

CBS had it as = LA Raiders pay scale.

Ticker on ABC / ESPN has it in line with your comments.

FWIW - I'm voting "Other" and nominating Route 5-15. :wink2:

Fulmer won 75% of his games and Vol fans ran him out of town. Kiffin's resume consists of scoring a lot of points as OC at USC with Leinart, Bush, White, Jarrett and Steve Smith. I bet I could look good calling plays for that offense.

I think bringing his dad along for the ride is a great idea, because he's going to need the wisdom of his experience.

"Fulmers Ghost" approves of your message: echoes from the Vols board

R.I.P. Tennessee Football

Apparently the internet fans took joyous resolve in getting one of the winningest coaches in our illustrious history fired and now are thrilled with a guy that has only won 25% of his games.

Coach Kiffin needs to beef up before he steps onto the practice field.
Let's get that man seconds on turkey and dressing and start working on a mainline for biscuits and gravy.

We need him (minimum) 30 lbs heavier by spring practice.

One thing you have to remember at least with the Vols Kiffin will be able to use the players he wants. Not like when he was with the Raiders, where Al Davis should be calling all the shots. Everything down to what time the toilets are cleaned.

I think this is a great move for the Vols. His father, one of the best defensive minded coaches in football will be coming with him. I think that this could shake up the SEC. I believe UT will return to the top of the SEC within the next 2-3 years and I hate that.
