LB A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Trophy, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion)

AJ Hawk is easily the best linebacker in the nation and hes a lock for the Butkus. So obviously Demeco Ryans, who would finish 3rd in the Butkus voting, should be the only linebacker considered for the trophy...right???

Just reminding everybody that the best Linebacker in the Nation has 1 game left at The Ohio State University. Gotta love this guy. Tough to imagine the Buckeye defense without him. Jim Tressel's best recruiting job so far in my opinion.

Hawk should replace Ryans. the rest is fine.
Take-a Dumperville is rolling up the stats against shit competition. Did Tampon Hali even play against us? And who in the fuck is Jimmy Williams?

In some good news, AJ is one of 3 finalists for the Bednarik award. Like the Nagurski, this is an award that no tOSU player has ever won.

The three finalists for the 11th Chuck Bednarik Award are D'Qwell Jackson (Maryland), A.J. Hawk (Ohio State), and Paul Posluszny (Penn State).

Congrats to A.J. Hawk for being a finalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.

Camp finalists: Leinart, Bush, Young, Hawk, Quinn

<!-- end pagetitle --> <!-- begin bylinebox --> SportsTicker

<!-- begin text11 div --><!-- begin leftcol --> <!-- template inline --> NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Southern California teammates Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart, and Texas' Vince Young are among the finalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.
Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk and Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn also were named finalists on Wednesday.
The winner will be announced live on ESPN on Dec. 8 and receive his trophy here on Feb. 11.
The Pac-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Bush averages a nation-best 212.5 all-purpose yards for the top-ranked Trojans. The junior set a conference record with 513 all-purpose yards in a 50-42 win over Fresno State on Nov. 19.
The reigning Heisman Trophy winner and a senior, Leinart has thrown for 3,217 yards and 24 touchdowns with just seven interceptions for USC, which leads the nation in total offense (571.27).
A junior, Young has passed for 2,576 yards and 23 touchdowns and has rushed for 792 yards and eight scores for No. 2 Texas, which like USC is 11-0. The teams would meet for the national championship at the Rose Bowl with wins on Saturday.
A senior, Hawk is the lone defensive player among the finalists. He has recorded a team-high 109 tackles with 7 1/2 sacks for the 9-2 Buckeyes, who lead the Big Ten Conference in scoring defense (14.8).
A junior, Quinn has thrown for a school-record 3,633 yards and 32 TDs with just seven interceptions for the Fighting Irish, who at 9-2 are almost certain to be invited to a BCS bowl game.

What's wrong with this picture?

I found this quote from a Penn State fan after an article by SI in which they gave the "Defensive Heisman" to Elvis Dumervil. The article mentioned Hawk as a possibility for their award.

"Paul Posluszny, a junior captain, has led the Penn State defense to the Big Ten title, his numbers are every bit as good as Hawk and when Penn State defeated OSU, it was Poz who outplayed not just Hawk, but the entire OSU linebacking corps.
-- Ryan, State College, Penn. (1:46 p.m.)"

To me that statement is like saying LeBron James is no good at basketball because the Cavs didn't make the playoffs last year, or Michigan has a better defense than Penn State because Michigan beat Penn State head to head. The fact is, neither statement makes sense.

If it were me picking the best defensive player in D-I CFB this year it would be Hawk. I apologize if this post is not where it needs to be or if it is a little off topic, but I had to vent.

comparing hawk and posluszny is like comparing nuclear weapons...they are both gonna blow the fuck out of you.

Posluszny is the most overrated defensive player in all of college football. He did have a few nice games, but after that he doesnt make any plays. No one can argue with me about this, after the OSU game I watched PSU probably 3-4 more times, and every time I watched for #31, never saw him in the same screen as the tackle. Hawk was outplayed because he was held on almost play, is that being a sore loser, no its not, no one can argue that, PSU did beat us because they made the plays they needed to make, they played a good game and won.

POSloser was also spying on Smith, which inflated the amount of tackles. There was a post a way back that listed the stats of Hawk, POSloser, and that guy from Alabama, and Hawk had both beat in nearly every category...

im not gonna argue, but i dont think anyone would say no for that kid playing on their team. i say we turn this back to aj and his accomplishments here at ohio state.

ive seen some great linebackers and this is one youll tell your kids/grandkids you were lucky enough to see some day...trust me.

My apologies for threadjacking. I was extremely upset when I read the Penn State fan's comments, and I just felt the need to vent. Jim is right, this thread needs to be turned back to A.J. and his accomplishments. I would have started a new thread to discuss the Posluszny-AJ comparison but I thought it would have gotten merged with this one. Again, my apologies for threadjacking.
