Tennessee boards are claiming they have moved on to offering other candidates.

Tennessee insiders reportedly claiming it went back and forth with offers and counter offers at least twice, which would explain the bump and un-bumpening.

This is probably slightly out of date at this point, but Dave Biddle (:yikes:) reports it’s still not final but Ohio State feels pretty comfortable with their latest offer—which would seemingly be backed up if Tennessee is currently extending offers to other coaches to be their DC.

Just read the thread on Bucknuts. Biddle is saying this isn't over yet. Washington hasn't decided one was or another. He doesn't want to leave Columbus and that he totally loves it here, but the money and title is very appealing (obviously). Said Tenn is offering $1.5M. OSU can't pay him that much as Coombs is only making $1.4M.

Biddle says nothing official yet but feels good about it.

So the timeline seems to be Ohio State made a counter offer on Monday night to keep Washington, Tennessee comes back with a counter offer on Tuesday morning that Washington was prepared to accept, then Ohio State came back with another counter offer sometime during the day on Tuesday that appears to have convinced Washington to stay at Ohio State and Tennessee started looking for a new DC sometime later in the day on Tuesday.

The latest from Lettermen Row:

Ohio State has also made its pitch to keep linebackers coach Al Washington as it tries to fend off a high-dollar play from Tennessee to lure him away from his hometown. Multiple sources with direct knowledge of the discussions have indicated to Lettermen Row the Buckeyes have discussed an enhanced financial package and the potential to be the defensive run-game coordinator with Washington, though there has been no indication yet as to what his final decision will be.

From the Tennessee 247 site this morning:

“Heupel's search for a defensive coordinator continues after overtures to Ohio State linebackers coach Al Washingtonwere unsuccessful.

The Vols made a couple of runs at Washington, who's viewed as a up-and-coming coach with a strong reputation as a position coach and recruiter and a bright future, and per sources extended a significant financial commitment to make him their new defensive coordinator, but Washington has elected to stay with the Buckeyes with a raise and new title expected to be on the way as a reward.”

Really good news, important for continuity at the position where 4 starters are exiting and also for recruiting. We have a massive LB haul in the 2022 class (probably the best we've ever had on paper) and while I think they're solid, keeping Washington almost makes it a sure thing we keep that group in tact and perhaps add one more stud. Glad to see you stay Coach Washington!
