In rebuttal let me present Joe Flacco, who "couldn't compete and start" at the University of Pittsburgh.

Get back to me when Perkins makes a NFL roster much less starts. If Perkins and you think his career will match Flacco your both delusional.

Former Ohio State linebacker Perkins arrested in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN — Former Ohio State linebacker David Perkins has found his football options narrowed after he was arrested during a visit to Bowling Green last weekend.

Perkins allegedly broke into a car, then was found by police bloodied and apparently drunk attempting to enter a female stranger's home at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, according to an incident report. He was charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal trespassing, criminal mischief, criminal damaging, and underage drinking.

Perkins, 20, who recently left OSU and planned to transfer, is scheduled to appear in Bowling Green Municipal Court on June 10.

Bowling Green State University and Toledo were among the programs believed to be interested in the former four-star prospect. But a BGSU spokesman said Falcons coaches are no longer actively recruiting Perkins. Toledo also backed off.

It is unknown whether Perkins was on a visit to the BGSU football program. Perkins did not return a phone and email message.

Police responded to a 911 call early Saturday morning from a 22-year-old woman who claimed a man was trying to gain entry into her Pike Street home.

According to the report, the woman said Perkins repeatedly shouted, "Let me in," and "Answer me now," then briefly left and headed for a silver Honda Civic in a nearby parking lot. Perkins allegedly smashed the driver's side window and got in the car, which police later found smeared with blood. The owner, like the woman at the home, said she did not know Perkins.

Police came upon Perkins back on the woman's front porch, apparently intoxicated, with "blood all over his hands and clothes," "wet pants as if he had urinated on himself," and large cuts on his right wrist. When an officer asked Perkins why he was at the home, the player replied, "I called coach and he said to go to her house."

Perkins was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Wood County Hospital before he was booked.

A South Bend, Ind., native, Perkins played nine games as a freshman for the Buckeyes, mostly on special teams.

Sure. Because that's exactly what I said - that Perkins's career would match Flacco's.

:so:

I think his (correct) point was that although there are examples of players who transferred to smaller schools and still have gone on to have good NFL careers, those players are in the vast minority of all of those who transfer from large schools to small. But you know that (I hope).

College football: Perkins is headed to Illinois State

By Al Lesar [email protected]

Second chance. New lease.

David Perkins has another opportunity to prove himself.

Perkins, a Washington High grad who played football at Ohio State last year and then left the school, has landed at Illinois State University.

He picked the Redbirds over Bowling Green and Northern Illinois.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker played mostly on special teams for the Buckeyes last year. He appeared in 10 games, recording six tackles and one broken-up pass.

His most famous tackle at Ohio State was a hit on mascot Brutus Buckeye during a practice last spring. It received national attention on YouTube.

Shortly after the end of spring practice, Perkins chose to transfer. While visiting Bowling Green, he found himself in trouble. A late-night incident led to his arrest for criminal trespassing, criminal mischief, criminal damaging and underage consumption of alcohol.

Perkins, who is in Normal, Ill., now, did not return several phone calls from The Tribune. His coach at Washington (who is now at Niles High), Antwon Jones, said Perkins made financial restitution to the victims and the charges were dropped.

Jones is hopeful this is a turning point for Perkins.

"I hope he has learned what he's looking for," Jones said. "Hopefully, he took some lessons from everything he went through at Ohio State and afterward, and applies them to his life. Time management is important. I hope he learns how to make better decisions.

"These sorts of life lessons can make him a better man."
