National Football Foundation Honors Former Buckeyes

Dwight "Ike" Kelley (1963-65), a two-time Ohio State All-American linebacker, received the 2008 Ohio Gold Award. A co-captain in 1965, Kelley was the first Buckeye linebacker to gain consensus All-American status, setting the table for a storied Ohio State tradition at the position.

Kelley, who was introduced by fellow 1965 co-captain and longtime friend, Greg Lashutka (1963-65), played seven seasons in the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles (1966-72).

Ike Kelley, a two-time All-American lineman and 1965 OSU team co-captain, believes Tressel made a mistake but added the ex-coach shouldn't be raked over the coals because of it.

"He's done an unbelievable lot of good things for Ohio State, the Columbus community, and the state," Kelley said. "Coach Tressel is loyal to his players and he tries to protect his players. But he made a decision which was not in his best interest.

"The university is bigger than any one person and it may take a year or so, but we'll be back. The program will come back strong."
