LB John Simon - (2012 B1G DPOY, Super Bowl Champ)

Watching John at the state finals I liked what I saw for the most part. The young man has great size and athletisizm. He also has a great motor, he never gives up on any play. He seems to feed on emotion. I was so busy watching all the other great players in this game that I could'nt simply focus on him. One thing I was somewhat shocked by was that he did'nt dominate the Coldwater line. I expected him to really dominate the line and that did'nt happen. Perhaps just great blocking by Coldwater but a guy of his talent I expected to make many more big plays. Nonetheless, the guy will be a beast at the next level.

He was double teamed all night long and the QB always seemed to know where he was at. Everytime I watched Simon he would beat the first man, another would be there to catch him, and sometimes even a RB or FB was waiting to ensure the other two. It was obvious Coldwater was out to stop Simon, which made plays for many others, like Taylor Hill. The first game of the year they left Brad Bednar, a D1 First Team All-Ohio tackle go one on one and Simon flat our embarrased him. I think he had 2-3 sacks and so many QB hurries and TFL's. If any OL in the state not named Mike Adams went one on one with Simon, they would get beat all night long. As far as DL go, I think he is the best in Ohio we have had in a long time, even over Ben Martin and Robert Rose. Bold I know...

SUPER SIMON
Youngstown Cardinal Mooney defensive lineman John Simon is already ranked as one of the top 100 junior prospects in the nation.

The four-star 6-foot-3, 265-pounder played like one of the nation's best on Saturday, even though his stat line won't blow you away. Simon only finished with two tackles, one tackle for a loss, a fumble recovery and one pass breakup.

Yet another situation where Illinois insiders think they have a real shot...

Haven't you heard? Zook is going to steal all the top prospects in OH next year and for years to come because they beat us...

I have a feeling our recent luck with Mooney kids will change with Simon...

Completely agree with statement #2...I just have heard from some Illinois people that they are fairly optimistic...

I know you do... I have just been told by some rabid Illini fans that my statement #1 was going to happen... Every fan base has some like that...

It will be good for our class (or whoever's ) to get Johnny on board early... He's a personable kid that will make other recruits take notice...

I think it's safe to say that we can get the bananas warming up.

Illinois is doing some really good things, but the Illinois insiders should be told that one solid year just ain't gonna do it.

Tell them that Flash Thomas says hello

As for Simon...I mentioned this before but I sat next to him at the Akron game. He was kinda behind me so I didn't really notice him until the second quarter when I had to get up to take a leak....but he is a big damn kid....and didn't seem to take his eyes off the game.

I think Simon, Klein, and Whiting would be a hell of a start
