LB Larry Grant (Official Thread)

Your assumptions on what prospects remain is based on the traffic on this forum?

We have a database with 311 prospects loaded, including all 20 of our current verbals along with every single offer issued (90+), with links to specific threads on all 311 listed. There is discussion in every single one of those threads, with many having lengthly, in-depth discussions and opinions from across the membership spectrum. Can you tell me a better place from which to draw our assumptions on which prospects remain for us?

How is it dumb? I've follwed this for a few years now, and the saying "where there's smoke, there's fire" rings very true. Just from what I observe in the forums, I am very rarely surprised by who does and does not become a Buckeye.

Okay but to imply that Grant is the only Buck left on the board for the Bucks is incorrect...that is why.

There are still people like Johnson, Geralds, Peters, etc. etc. still on the list.

Not to mention the players, like Fields, you mentioned before aren't a lock to go anywhere....

I am looking in this thread for jlb's reference to Elijah Fields. Don't see one.

Geralds choice comes more to the academics program than the football program. On a pure classroom only basis he would be hard pressed to not choose Stanford (IMO). If he wants to get the best balance of academics and distance from home its Ga Tech - only last does Ohio State (still a creditable EE major school get the nod ... that's if Geralds means exactly what he said.

If Geralds is looking at football and academics combined and quality playing time opportunities he would be well served by giving the nod to the Buckeyes. (Also one should not forget that his early stated preference was Duke).

Johnson is one of those qualification question marks till we hear otherwise.

Peters to my way of thinking is the most "up in the air" of the prospects you injected into this conversation about Grant. He states a desire to play on D, could it be a question of a correct fit?

As for Fields, if he qualifies and the visit goes well I cannot imagine this whole site going yes!! should he commit as a Buckeye. But that isn't the same as jlb's real point - that Grant would NOT be left hanging in the wind as NLOID approaches.
In fact, as I see this you choose to take an opposite view of a statement made by jlb in his immediate prior post "the traffic on this site tells me that Grant's the only guy really left on the board for the Bucks." Which statement he later revised to reflect his original intention - "I just think that to imply that Grant could miss the boat is a pretty big leap." AND "but I did state something to the effect of the staff not pursuing anyone else outside of Grant to fill out this class, when there is the possibility of coming out of nowhere, like you pointed out."

All of which makes it sounds like you are trying to drill home a point which has already been modified, conceded and completely clarified by jlb.

And Grant - to get back on topic - would remain a huge get for this class and one that I certainly hope a schollie is being left open to fill.<!-- / message --><!-- sig --><!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

don't take offense brother, your database is the bomb. However, there is always the possiblilty that somebody pops up at the last minute that wasn't previously on the radar. ( in the past there have been guys like Nate Salley that were picked up on signing day that weren't discussed before that day at all, at least not by these recruiting forums etc.)

My point at the beginning of this debate is that the class is getting full (1-2 open spots)

while it doesn't seem likely that there are many prospects at this point that are leaning towards tOSU that would lock out a talent like Mr. Grant, when you are down to 1-2 spots, I'm sure it increases the urgency of any prospect who may be considering us.

I'll agree with Wad on this one. Take Grant, when he commits, and save one for Johnson once he gets his qualifications in order. That class would have a great deal of balance and a tremendous amount of athleticism. The only thin parts are possibly DT, and interior OL which we already have a lot of depth on the roster. Lets get em in and start practicing for next season.

No offenese taken at all, and I wasn't to trying prop the database or anything else, but rather to point out that with all the info we have here at our disposal this forum is the place on which to base our assumptions.

I think Grant has a ship saved for him and we have one more left for someone else (hopefully a lineman). We'll bank two...we'll need one for our place kicker.

Rivals $ (Oregon site)

1/26

Larry is set for his visit to Oregon this weekend. He will be there on Friday and Saturday, then think about it on Sunday, talk with his coach on Monday, talk with his brother on Tuesday, and someone will be getting a call on Wednesday with his decision.

What do you think the chances are of us moving up another notch in the team recruiting rankings with Larry as a commit?

Somebody needs to get him a phone that can make more than 1 call a day :p
