least intelligent segment of modern society?

martinss01

blissfully stupid
i suspect we can all agree that there is a significant amount of stupidity inherent to our species. while i have felt a certain nitch of our everyday society has a particular flair for the stupid. recent events have brought those thoughts to the forefront for me personally.

so who would i place at the top of such an accomplished list you ask?

lawyers? nah, i would consider them very intelligent.... but evil.

politicians? no, they are simply put stupid. and to be perfectly honest we are more to blame for our current political situation than they are. after all, who is more foolish? the fool? or the fool who follows him? seeing as how "i" couldn't possibly hold "myself" responsible for any of my own actions (obviously!), politicians simply can't be at the top of the list.

marketers? BINGO! never in the history of mankind has any single individual or group known as much about an entire society as marketers do today. they literally know every single thing about us that has ever been documented in anyway shape and or form. if you've ever said it, done it, bought it or plan to.... its probably in a database somewhere and they have a query ready to pull up every tidbit of information on it.

so why marketers? because even with the ridiculous amount of information they possess, they seem to have no clue what i actually want to purchase. lets say you go out after work and buy a 10 thousand dollar tv. sounds like a good plan... at least i know it does to me *shrug*. so... now that you have your super fancy tv. what types of fliers, sales, coupons, or random "based on your purchase history you might also be interested in" do you think you might expect?

universal remotes? nah. various cable/satellite plan offers? nope. tv mounting systems/entertainment centers? pffffttt.... video game consoles? ha! no, it is very unlikely you are going to get anything asking if you are interested in purchasing an item that would in anyway interface with your spiffy new tv. what are you almost certain to get? a crap ton of sale info/coupons/special pricing and or promotions for.... you guessed it.... TV's.

*ponders* with all that data "the mystical cloud" has about me... what in it makes people think that if i just went out and bought a stupid ridiculous expensive tv that "naturally" the next thing i would want to do is run right out and buy.... another tv..... if i were truly in the market for two TV's.... wouldn't i have just went out and bought two TV's...?

I have no idea what you are talking about, but if I did, I would say it's because the company that sold your purchasing history goes through my competitor, whose lists suck.

I mean, my competitors never once sold a list of newly created residential addresses for new construction/first time homeowners to a company that was mailing remodeling catalogs.

A few jobs ago my office was next to the CFO who was a friend too. Big Dilbert fan. Anyway one day he calls me and says come over and he is just laughing his ass off.

Shows me the Dilbert.

They are interviewing a new sales guy. He is dumb, but not dumb enough for sales, which is pretty dumb. So the boss bangs the new sales guy's head against the conference table really hard. The new guy comes up and has lines of confusion around his head, now apparently even dumber than before.

The manager says, there, now he is perfect for marketing.
