Don't think jersey sales is his focus... It's his legend...

He wants to establish himself as a legend... and to do this he has to have his own... not the second coming of anyone...

With all due respect Mr. James, this kind of honor should be reserved for people like Jackie Robinson - people who who contributed something to the world other than their play and/or apparel sales.

Michael Jordan is a petty asshole who happened to be a great basketball player. I'm sure LeBron is sincere in his admiration of his basketball and business accomplishments, but MJ is not deserving of this kind of honor in my opinion.

There's a ton of petty assholes who have their numbers retired... you're a pretty uptight guy if you think Jordan's number being retired is offbase.

I'm sure Lebron sees the money that he stands to make by changing numbers. He can't make it seem like he's doing it just to make money thus the retire Jordan's number petition.
This actually boads well for Cleveland since there would be no point of changing numbers this offseason if he was going to be selling another teams jersey next year. He'd be better off waiting and selling a million #23 Nets jerseys and then changing his number to 6 in a few years and do it again. :p

By their teams, yes. By the league, no.

Who has? Jackie Robinson and Wayne Gretzky...there's more deserving people out there than Jordan.

That being said, Jalen Rose made a good point this morning on SportsCenter (I can't believe I just typed that...). If the NBA was going to retire a jersey, it should perhaps consider someone like Bill Russell first... I hate the C's but Russell won 11 in 13 years and worked very hard on racial/social issues... Jordan is the best, but off the court he's just the greatest shoe salesman ever...

I had no idea that Gretzky's number was retired across the NHL. Then again, I don't give a shit about hockey. To me though that's an example of why not to do this.

Besides, can't we all see that LeBron's really doing this because that scrub from the Knicks is never going to give up his #23 next year. :2004:
