Lee Corso (official thread)

The existence of the photo was explored by Reddit last fall.

There is a scoreboard photo, but whether there is any photo with Corso and players in the foreground is still debated. Some claim that photo does exist, and that a copy of it hangs (or once did) in a bar in Bloomington, but nobody can name the bar today.

This most certainly did happen. I was listening to the game and the announcers were describing how angry Woody got.

That just makes the story even better. Good for them.

They got their comeuppance very soon afterwards, and pretty much every year besides that, so why not have a little fun in that duringfl moment?

The main thing that would make me skeptical of this is that it seems like a really terrible coaching decision. It's as if Corso is telling his players, "We are so terrible compared to these guys, let's quick get this picture before they start destroying us, like I know they're about to."

They didn't have a chance and everyone knew it. Corso had the reputation of circus acts and gimmicks. He arrived with his team at Illinois or Northwestern by driving around the track and onto the field in a double decker bus.
I forgot the details of that stunt, but as I recall he had the Indiana team do pregame warm-ups off site and folks in the stadium were wondering if they were going to show up. It may have been a Purdue game, but I am too lazy to look it up. I think in that game Indiana riding a high scored first, but then ended up getting hammered. That's my version of the story and I'm sticking to it, regardless of fax and evidents.

I remember Corso talking about this on his post game show the next day so it must have happened. Come to think about it I think I have heard him mention it on occasions since too

I'm virtually certain I saw the picture of Corso and his team around a scoreboard on a TV show....possibly around the time of the launch of the BTN

You'd think in this age, it would be easy to come by on the web but I guess no one has taken the time to upload and tag it as such. I know I'm probably in a minority, but I always liked Corso. I know he's a clown, but he's a good guy and I do believe he genuinely loves the game, even if he does clown around about it.
