Let me ax y'all a question

Since there isn't a general College Basketball forum, I'll put this here.

The once proud Arkansas Razorback basketball team is likely shopping for a new head coach very soon.

Who would y'all suggest suggest as coaches worthy of a good look?

Looking for an outsiders perspective here.

Be nice.

For the record, I'm pulling for OSU to win the NCAAT.

Well, does Arkansas have the requisite budget/prestige to go after a solid mid-major or other major head coach? Or is it shopping the hot assistants? The pool is rather huge without narrowing to a certain extent.

I'd think that Arkansas could entice some of the bigger name mid-major head coaches, but I don't know what the AD priorities are. Also, where does Arkansas primarily obtain their recruits from? Texas? Arky? Louisiana? Somewhere else?

Take Brian Gregory away from Dayton, please! I want to know what it's actually like for the Flyers to run an offense again!

Arkansas has a lot to offer, even though it's been 14-15 years since we were really relevant.

A proud tradition: 1 NC, 1 Runner-up, a handful of Final Fours. Eddie Sutton and Nolan Richardson both had a lot of success here.

A rabid fanbase.

Outstanding facilities in Bud Walton Arena - a 20,000 seat house.

Plenty of money and the willingness to spend it.

And a Top 5 ranked recruiting class coming next year.

Mike Anderson is a non-starter. The hand-check rule has killed the 40 Minutes of Hell style of play. He hasn't had a lot of success at Missouri and he wouldn't come anyhow.

Some names that are floating around:

Bill Self (I know, but it's a persistent name that comes up)
Tubby Smith
Tim Floyd
Billy Gillipsie
Buzz Peterson
Mike Anderson (see above)

I can't get excited about any of those names, but I'd take Tubby if that's all I had to choose from.

Hire Mike Anderson away from Missouri.

Reinstate 40 minutes of hell.

End of discussion.

Agreed. Granted, I live in Little Rock and so I hear that everyday. But I still feel that is the absolute best answer and the only one that would satisfy 100% of the fans.

Problem is that Anderson may not be willing to come, but I'd offer big $$$ to make it happen because the system does have its advantages and the fans love it...here in Arky prolly more than anywhere.

Cliff Warren from Jacksonville University.

He's going to make it to a big program sooner or later, might as well benefit from giving him a shot.

He'll put a bunch of 6'6" to 6' 8" athletes on the floor and play up tempo all day.

Look at whoever is the head coach at Xavier University, they are ranked again this year so he must be doing pretty good. Seems like the last 5 coaches they had left for a bigger school and seemed to do all right including a guy named Matta.

Pffft. Skip Prosser hasn't won a game in years.

Too soon?
