Losing Early, Now What Needs to Happen - 2010 Chaos Theory

As much as I hate to say it...I think a BSU/TCU NC game might actually be what's needed. Ticket sales would be atrocious, or at least if they "sell out" I would guess less than 80-75% would show up.

I bet BSU will sell out Glendale. BSU has traveled verywell to Glendale for the OU Fiesta Bowl and they went to DC this year when they played Va Tech.

I wouldn't take that bet, BSU fans are hungry, and this wouldn't be an opportunity to take lightly, no way they miss this one. Same with TCU fans.

Unfortunately I doubt a BSU vs TCU title match would suffer attention even a little. The game would definitely sell out, and as for TV ratings, I think people would watch just because they're intrigued, or because they want to see failure.

Assuming Ohio State doesn't lose another game, I don't think there's any chance that they don't get a BCS bowl.

I do. If an undefeated Michigan State goes to the Rose Bowl, then it is possible. I have wondered whether Ohio State could get past Wisconsin and Iowa away from home, due to the weak SOS otherwise. The problem is that they have just not been tested by a decent team until last night. Given what I saw in the Iowa game yesterday, I think Ohio State can beat them. But, in the end, this loss and such a weak SOS may just combine to keep Ohio State out.

Step 1 BEAT PURDUE ..Don't give a shit about the other 150 teams..

Exactly how I feel right now. I missed the game last night after my wife scheduled us to go to a fucking boring gala last night. I was following the game via my iPhone last night. After Wiscy returned the opening kickoff for a TD, I thought I was going to put my butter knife through the table. I just want the Bucks to get back on track against Purdue. In fact I want to see a dismantling of the Boilers.

After the thorough beating we just took, it just seems petty to talk about getting to the National Championship. Seems like we need to take a page out of the coach's handbook and just watch one game at a time and not worry about bowls.

Lack of Identity

Tough one to watch.Perhaps most frustrating is that Wisconsin is like an evil twin. They do the things we used to do, and do them well, while those same things seem to allude us now. We're an exceptional football team, but we lack in some basic areas and that just kills us.

The thing that is most striking is that we have no offensive identity.
As a Coach, I preach to my own kids that our identity is to line up and physically own the other team from start to finish. That's what we do. For our Buckeyes, I'm not sure what we hang our hat on, aside from TP running to bail us out. Our run game is certainly not what it was, and that lends itself to the constant o line discussion. We've known since 06 that the line is a huge question mark and Watt proved it again tonight.

Pass wise, we've done a great job this season of stretching the field more than last year, but in a few games, and last night in particular, we could not get open (aside from Sanzo, what a warrior) and more to the point TP seemed to linger through his progressions.

The weirdest thing of all is the option and wildcat looks. We don't do either particularly well, and yet that seems to be our version of a changeup. We're not fooling anyone with TP split out, and every time we run the option, the exchange is either seems ill timed or ill conceived with Boom struggling to match TP.

I guess my question is what do you guys think? Do we need an identity? Is it overrated for the modern game?

No doubt the sun will rise and we will still have a great year. I just hate to see us lose in the fashion which has brought us so many victories of our own.

:oh:

Damn good point, its gonna be hard enough to make it to a BCS bowl. Can you guys imagine a 1 loss OSU team in the Capital One Bowl with undefeated MSU in the BSC NCG, that would be disgraceful.

We'll be warmly welcoming next years Big Ten championship game if that is the case.

Simple. We need to take care of business, win out and things will hopefully work out for us. We don't control our destiny now, we need some help. BUT we can take care of the remaining opponents on our schedule. First up, Purdue, and let's take some frustrations out on them. Go Bucks!

Honestly, we need to worry about the Rose Bowl at this time, unless Sparty can thread the needle and make the NC game.

Just to make the Rose Bowl, Ohio State needs:

Win out.
Wiscy lose again
Iowa loss--two would be nice (will be taken care of with our winning out)
Sparty lose twice.

That's three losses that Ohio State has no control over.

Not so sure about that, I would take undefeated Auburn and Oregon over them, and Oklahoma if they go undefeated. This might be the year where a Boise State or TCU could get voted in over a MSU

You know all the apologists for Truck Driver U. will endlessly hold up Sparty not playing Ohio State as a means of negating the Big Ten championship.
