Anyone here watch the show? I didn't start watching it until about the 5th or 6th episode, but I am addicted to it. What I really like about the show is the mystery that is contained in the story. I've been to several message boards regarding the show and there are a lot of theories about the island...everything from purgatory, to government/science experiements, to Atlantis.

For those who watch it, any ideas?

3 weeks ago. They have been showing 2 episodes a week for the past 3 weeks. I'm guessing they are going to go back to new episodes next week with Alias starting up after it at 9.

I've missed the last episode or two (I think - they've been showing reruns for a little while), but I was watching it pretty religiously up until then. I don't know as that I have a theory. Some of the stuff is pretty crazy, but I'm thinking it's just some island in the middle of nowhere that has polar bears and dinosaurs or some crazy shit. Maybe the rest of the world was killed in a nuclear war. Or not.

Wednesday nights at 8pm. They start with new episodes next week after being in re-runs the last three weeks.

I have my own theory as well, one that I haven't seen anywhere else. Like I said, I haven't seen every episode so I can't say if what I think is going on has been disqualified or not. Let's just say that if you are familiar with the aboriginal mythology of Dreamtime you might understand where my thinking is leading me.

From Wikipedia:

Most Aboriginal people believe that all life as we know it today (human, animal, or plant) is part of a vast and complex single network of relationships which can be traced directly back to the great spirit ancestors of the Dreamtime.

In the Aboriginal world view, every event leaves record in the land. Everything in the natural world is a result of the actions of the metaphysical beings whose actions created the world. The meaning and significance of particular places and creatures is wedded to their origin in the Dreamtime, and certain places have a particular potency, which the Aborigines call its dreaming. In this dreaming lies the sacredness of the earth.

Since the show focuses on the survivors' life on the island and their back stories leading up to the plane crash, perhaps the island is a physical record of the sum of events in their lives and now they have to live on it. I don't know if the writers of the show are going for a metaphysical explanation of the island such as this or if it will be more of a sci-fi explanation.

I love the show... and I don't know what the hell is going on. There are so many theories floating around who knows what is the truth.... but that's what makes the show good.

I don't think Hollywood writers will go that deep, they will probably come up with something a little easier to digest than Dreamtime. It would be cool if they did use something like that though. Educate while entertaining.

It may be, as you say, a science fiction kinda thing. I hope it isn't though, because this will turn off a sizable percentage of the audience, and keep a lot of future potential viewers away. I like most science fiction, but it seems to be a curse to primetime television.
