Mark Pantoni (Assistant Athletic Director, Player Personnel)

You Win With People | Eleven Warriors

Director of player personnel

While not an assistant coach, Urban rolled with a recruiting right-hand man at Florida by the name of Mark Pantoni. By all accounts, Pantoni is a walking recruiting database and earned Meyer's trust by matching his work ethic. Pantoni has already updated his Facebook page to the job title noted above and has spoken with many current UF recruits to inform them of his decision to work for Meyer.

From everything we've read and heard, he does an outstanding job of building rapport with the kids as he works to win their services for his school. By all accounts, this is a huge get for Meyer and the Buckeyes as elite recruiting coordinators can obviously be a sometimes underappreciated backbone of a program.

He is also the man most HS coaches will deal with and also the guy who will 'load the board' with prospects. Mark will be the guy who knows about the 14-year old kid in BFE who is running a 4.4...

He is as intense about recruiting as Coach Meyer.

So he is the younger, better looking, salaried version of the BPRT!

Pantoni Already Having Big Impact at Ohio State
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Typically guys who are hired as a school?s director of football administration don?t get much publicity, even at a place like Ohio State.

Mark Pantoni is anything but typical.

He has been called the ?master mind,? the brainpower behind much of Meyer?s recruiting dominance at Florida and he has already made an significant impact in a short period of time since joining Meyer?s new staff at Ohio State.

?He?s basically, you would almost call the head coach?s ?right hand man,?? said Tom Loy, who covers recruiting and high school sports in the Sunshine State for FlaVarsity.com.

?Especially with how close he is with Urban Meyer. He was the easy front-runner to take over at Ohio State.?

Didn't Coach Tressel have a person in a similar role? Is he just being cut loose? Our recruiting prior to Panoni was almost as good as Florida's, if not better.

Greg Gillum and Joe Daniels (after Siciliano took over QB coaching in 2006) were the two that headed this up. Gillum has been at OSU >5 years if I remember correctly.

Always interesting to see how different schools treat the ops. director positions. Meyer obviously likes a younger guy (no Sandusky) as his consigliere, as it were.

Are they, Gillum & Daniels, staying? I hope so!
...and if so, will they be in a similar role?

and if not, with the recruits they have brought in over the last 5 years, then...
a.) Meyer is being a bit silly, and
b.) they ought to be able to find jobs pretty quickly with tOSU's competitors.

Fairly confident that Coach Daniels will only be on staff in spirit.

RIP Coach.
