That's like saying you'd rather listen to Jesse Palmer than Brent Musberger. McAsshat is a total cum dumpster and Kiper still hasn't gotten over the 70's. That said, I at least feel somewhat comfortable with the shit Kiper says. McShay is a fucking idiot, bottom line.

McShay "decided to go to college at the University of Richmond. He attempted to walk-on while attending , but was switched to defensive back and garnered little playing time. " (from wikipedia) I'm not impressed.

Kiper may be a bouffant ESPN caricature, but he basically created NFL draft scouting for the masses and is the guy McShay wishes he could one day become. Of course he can be a douche but he carries around a ton of actual information on this stuff: McShay's just a teleprompted pretty-boy, and probably only ended up on the recruiting beat because he's not as pretty as Kirk or Jesse.

Based on what? What are his bonafides?

ESPN thrusts actors into caricature roles all of the time. They are not a news agency, they are an entertainment entity who currently always put fluff & ratings ahead of journalistic integrity and balance.
I agree that "sports journalism" needs to take its rightful place alongside "jumbo shrimp," but McShay has access to a great number of football personnel experts, and forms his judgments accordingly. Kiper, I believe, expresses more his own opinions, but if you look at the two guys' record of draft projections, they're not bad.

What irritates me the most about these guys is their willingness to blast anyone who picks a guy earlier than they project. A guy drafted a round ahead of their projection is a "huge reach"...ignoring the fact that the real scouts and GMs who do this professionally obviously disagree.
This I can agree with completely.

Well, almost completely. There's the Raiders. They really don't "do this professionally."

I don't know about that. I mean, this guy must have turned a few heads in his day...

In regards to the nuances of the game and breaking down players, I would. That's not Brent's expertise and I love Musburger and hate Palmer but there's a reason they have former players in the booth.

Hey, I freaking hate McShay, I think he's a smug know it all but if I'm ever having a debate with a former player vs. former non-player about player ability, I'll always err on the side of the former player, walk-on or not.

I have great deal of respect for Mel Kiper and his business skills. He turned scouting into a big business and made himself $$$. I have to believe that he spends great deal of time in research. He usually has great info. You can clearly see the hate for McShay when both are on TV. Kiper is original.

Don't know much about McShay except that he's a product of ESPN wanting to have someone to take exclusiveness away from Kiper. Just like Riley n Simmons. Mortenson n Schefter to name few.

ASSORTED MIDSTREAM SIGNING DAY THINGS OF?NOTE - Every Day Should Be Saturday

Todd McShay, Flammable. Watching this throughout the day on ESPNU has brought several things to light. First, Robert Smith is breezy and quite tolerable in large doses. He's personable without being overly buddy-buddy, quick on his feet, and generally knows what he's talking about on-air. Second, Todd McShay has waxed into a first-rank douchebag, and his head is freakishly large and shaped exactly like Mr. Mackey's on South Park. If he bursts into flame on air, we're hitting rewind and record on the DVR.
