Mel Tucker (HC Michigan St. Spartans)

Fair enough but Jim Tressel acolytes are not going to get you to the promised land in modern college football.

Not sure I'd dump a bunch of money on a guy who's maybe a marginal improvement over the interim guy who will do it for nothing.
Well, even taking away the histrionics from their message-board fanbase, it does sound like the MSU BOT was very motivated to hire a minority if they couldn't land a "big name" coach, so Tucker does fit that bill.

Hard to say, but they overpaid. But with BIG money, what is overpaying really?

@ORD_Buckeye could tell you better than I but I've labored under the impression that MSU isn't exactly rolling in money overall as a University. Especially with all the payouts.

Not sure they should be throwing millions at the closing time chick.

They were going to have to overpay somebody, the money Tucker ended up getting would be the only reason to take that job at this point. It would take a miracle to turn that dumpster fire around anytime soon.

I don't know how the settlements have hit them. Overall, they fall in the middle of B1G endowments at $3B exactly, so by overall public u standards, they're pretty rich. I have no idea how their AD finances look, but they should be good.

I thought I remembered a story about donations drying up to next to nothing.

Maybe it was the Pedsters.

who knows?

He's going to need to the extra money to offset the extra pounding(s) he's going to take in the B1G as opposed to the PAC

I agree with this. Utah is going to take a step backward with their graduations and some junior migration to the NFL.
USC just signed a class that was rated lower than Vanderbilt and Oregon State.

Why not stay in the Pac12 South for a bit and build the program up for a better job?
Instead, he's joined a program where he's immediately in 4th place in his division with an uphill climb.

Only thing I can think of is the MSU administration was very candid in telling him:

"Look Coach, we have other messes to clean up in our Athletic department. Land 7-8 wins, get bowl eligible, and keep the program clean and you'll earn yourself a lot of runway"

It's a shame. Coach MT was a good DC for us and he is a good coach.

Sports talk in Denver is still on him today nonstop. This is the only time I can remember any of these idiots talking about CU football. From what I gather, Tucker is a cross between Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and Judas Iscariot.
