Microsoft Deployment Toolkit/Workbench

Magua

Buckeye
Anyone here use this at work for deploying images and/or upgrading PC's across the environment?

I ask because the company I work for currently uses and pays for Symantec Ghost as our imaging software, and to be honest the way it's being used is very lackluster and time consuming to keep images updated.

So, as of this week I have been asked to install 2 servers (one at each of our main locations) and setup MDT with all of our Operating Systems(XP PRO/Win7 32/64bit of each) & Applications (Roughly 100-125 off top of my head).

I've never used the Toolkit before so really I am just scouring the internet for Videos and Articles while just "dickin' around" self teaching.

The best place for videos and articles to help you learn MDT is the Deliver page of the Springboard Series on TechNet. All of Microsoft's deployment tools are covered.
To get you started quickly, the Proof of Concept Jumpstart Kit is a complete deployment setup with Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 Enterprise and all the deployment tools already installed. The Operating systems are trials, but this is a great test environment to experiment while learning the tools.

Hope this helps,
David

Seems that's actually someone from Microsoft, oddly enough, based on the email I just got from them on the subject. They've got an outreach program now to try and provide info and support on sites like ours where MS-specific questions come up. I've restored the post and unbanned. Very strange. Everything about this screamed spam to me too.

Obviously feel free to re-re-correct if there's more to this situation than what I'm seeing.

No, I googled it, and this isn't uncommon, just it's usually on IT sites. It's the ability to find it so fast that made me sort of freak out. Well, I guess it wasn't that fast... but... still creepy.

Edit: I think the question becomes are they relying on the MSN Spiders or are they just googling?

Hi,
Thank you for removing the ban.

As Clarity has pointed out, I work with the Windows Outreach Team for IT Professionals. Our goal is to answer questions and provide sought after resources for the Windows client on communities across the web and, where appropriate, to help make people aware of the free tools and resources on TechNet which help to address their situation or issue.

We work in conjunction with the Springboard Series on TechNet, a great resource for IT pros to explore the features of Windows and educate themselves on piloting, deploying, and managing Windows. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions about myself or the Windows Outreach Team- IT Pro.

@AKAK My Bing-Fu is very strong

When does Windows 8 roll out? And what college do you follow in sports?

I could not answer that question even if I knew...
I live close to UNH (University of New Hampshire), so I have to root for the home team to avoid beatings :box: but the only college sport I follow is hockey.
