Not Mili, but you can start here;

Just bear in mind that the views expressed there represent the more hard-line view against statehood. While living there for a few years, I never met a local who was really absolute on the issue -- and I lived in an apartment in Waikiki. On the other hand, all my neighbors saw me come and go in various Marine attire, so maybe I wasn't the one they wanted to talk about sovereignty to. Frankly, I'd be shocked if Hawaii left the Union in 20, 30, or even 50 years. But you never know. They have some valid gripes, be sure of that, but statehood isn't just a horrible thing for Hawaii these days.

Dayton: Keep in mind that the current indigenous Hawaiian population is very small, and few of full or major Hawaiian ancestry hold significant office. Many whine how Hawaii was "overthrown" by the US...well, to an extent it was, but actually it was overthrown by businessmen and not the US government. The Hawaiians put up no fight at all during this "overthrow", and this is this same people that murdered Capt Cooke. Also, every other state in the union except for Alaska was obtained by our "overthrowing" to local indigenous population, and I haven't heard of any other state thinking about leaving.

Tell your teacher she's full of shit. Seriously, tell her I said she is...

Dayton: Hawaii has a huge identity crisis. Everything that is of Hawaiian origin is "original and unique", as if there are no other island nations or territories on Earth. Modern Hawaiian contemporary music has incorporated a heavy Jamaican flavor and many times is referred to as "Jawaiian" music. Anytime anyone from Hawaii does well outside of Hawaii (Jasmine Trias on American Idol, Michelle Wie in golf, etc.) they are huge news. Hawaii is essentially the "bastard child" of our union...

yea, but Hawaii also has some fun rum drinks that their bartenders make :biggrin:

I would guess that there is more $$ flowing in from the US gov. than comming out in the form of taxes... I would guess that Hawaii would be cutting it's nose to spite it's face by defecting (and that is assumeing the US Gov. would allow them to in the first place... the southerners know what happens if you try to defect...)
