Mirror Lake Jump (official thread)

OSU is 1-1 in my two jumps into the Lake (02-03). 02 was out of control. Entire lake was shoulder to shoulder with bodies around 11pm. I think this is from 03:

This will be the second fricking year in a row I miss Mirror Lake due to a job interview somewhere else in the country and boy am I pissed. It is one hell of a time and I recommend all students do it.

As for kegs and eggs, I went to Paninis last year at 5:30 AM and it was a blast. A few scUM fans came in and I doused them with my beer from the balcony. There is no excuses for not drinking extremely early Sat unless you're driving to the game. I might be tailgating for the game at some golf course just outside the Big House

Yeah, that's their school golf course...nice upkeep. Hey, at least you get to piss on the state of Michigan without worry. I've done it many of times there.

2003 was definitely more wild than 02. You'll get little 2-3 person packs of band members walking around and playing Across the Field or some other stuff. Plus there will be a few sets of titties, much better than the Girls Gone Wild events. Might even see some players chasing after girls (Trever Robinson, I'm looking at you).

Just a generally wild time that I'm going to miss after I graduate in June.

I jumped in Mirror Lake twice: both for Cooper's only wins against scUM in '94 & '98.

I would highly, highly, HIGHLY advise against it: the water is very dirty, and if its 10 degrees out (like it was when I did it in '98), its not a good feeling afterwards.

Sloopy.

We were there at the same time. I never jumped but thought it was funny watching people jump in and break numerous legs.

I think many people thought the lake was 5-6ft. deep but it was only about 2ft. deep and to see people hit the bottom of the lake when they weren't expecting it was painful to watch.

Many were also unaware that the lake bottom was covered by jagged rocks.

I believe the lake has been cleaned out since then and is much cleaner and the rocks have been removed.

The lake, although still filthy, is in much better condition that you just described. They renovated it sometime while I've been here.

One point is it is going to be cold as a witch's titty Thursday night, maybe it's better off I'm not in Ohio that night

There are a bunch of sad, sad fucks up here who jump into Boston Harbor on New Year's Day. I would think that Mirror Lake would be a spa compared to the harbor in January. Have fun feeling your nutsack in the back of your throat.

Wading in Mirror Lake is mentioned in the online Lantern article:

Beat Michigan Week

Thursday brings out wing lovers, and students that are willing to risk hypothermia in the murky depths of Mirror Lake. The Wing the Wolverines competition will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Ohio Union. This free event includes two contests. The first of the two competitions will be the Ultimate Fan Competition.

<snip>

OSU's infamous Mirror Lake jumper-inners can attend a pre-game party on Thursday night before they waddle through the swampy lake. For two hours, starting at 8p.m., all you-can-eat pizza and all-you-can-drink beer will be available at Panini's Bar and Grill (for the 18-21 set, the beer will be replaced with soda). The proceeds of the night will also be donated to the American Red Cross, and further help Sigma Alpha Mau in their fight against Michigan's chapter.
