MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Chicago has 2 regular players batting over .200 right now - Baez is at .242 and Bryant is at .233. Contreras went 2/3 today and JUST go to .200

To say that lineup sucks is an insult to sucking.

Watched them a bit here and there this week, Baez and Rizzo can't catch up to average fastballs right now. Don't help them out by flipping a bunch of off speed shit up there and they are completely overmatched at even 93-94 average MLB fastball type heat.

They better hurry up winning more WS titles. The sun is setting on this group.

They did protest, vehemently. The umps even reviewed it. Problem is all they can review is if it hit him. They aren't allowed to change it to a strike, which seems kind of dumb with the replay review.

Home plate ump admitted after the game that he blew the call.
Since this does not fall under rule 9.01 (c)- Each umpire has authority to rule on any point not specifically covered in these rules or 9.02 (a and b)
Any umpire's decision which involves judgment, such as, but not limited to, whether a batted ball is fair or foul, whether a pitch is a strike or a ball, or whether a runner is safe or out, is final. No player, manager, coach or substitute shall object to any such judgment decisions.

(a) Players leaving their position in the field or on base, or managers or coaches leaving the bench or coaches box, to argue on BALLS AND STRIKES will not be permitted. They should be warned if they start for the plate to protest the call. If they continue, they will be ejected from the game.
The Marlins actually SHOULD have filed a protest with the league office right then and there.

Rule 5.05 (b)
Per baseball official rule 5.05(b), a batter becomes a baserunner and is awarded first base when he or his equipment (except for his bat):

  • is touched by a pitched ball outside the strike zone,
  • and he attempts to avoid it (or had no opportunity to avoid it),
  • and he did not swing at the pitch.[1]

If the batter does not attempt to avoid the pitch, he is not awarded first base, and the pitch is ruled either a strike if in the strike zone or a ball if out of the strike zone

The dumbest league that refuses to stay relevant in today’s age.

Buddy of mine was a Royals fan, lived 2 hours south of Cleveland. He paid for the MLB package to watch Royals games but was blacked out for games in Cleveland, even though he couldn't get Tribe games on TV as I do. Best part? It was even that way last season. You couldn't attend games live and they still blacked them out.

I didn’t get the Cleveland game on MLB Network last night because they were playing the White Sox. I’m 2.5-3 hours away from Chicago.

I usually get the regional Tribe game when they play in Cleveland but because they were in Chicago apparently that’s too regional?

It's because the tv contracts are regional/team by team (I think).

I wouldn't think MLB could arbitrarily decide how to deliver you someone else's content but I could be totally misunderstanding the situation.

They are. I imagine they do it do that people have to watch the commercials on STO (or Bally’s or whatever the fuck it is now) rather that watching the ones (or none) on the package...still, what sounds good in theory fucks a lot of regional fans out of their baseball, and MLB can’t afford that at all
