MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Houston's $18 million payroll reminds me of Pittsburgh's $9 million payroll - for the entire team - in 1997. That team won 79 games, the most of any Pirates squad over the last 20 years. I doubt the Astros will be so fortunate this season.

The Pirates' pitchers have been fantastic through five games. They've allowed only 10 runs through 5 games, and no more than 3 runs in any game.

They're 1-4. :roll1:

Chris Davis has gangraped the baseball over the first week...holy crap. Of course it won't last, but Jesus, what a start.

Oh, and it was a really cool moment tonight when BJ Upton tied it with a homer in the 9th, and brother Justin won it with a homer 2 batters later. Talk about the ultimate living out a family dream type story (second only to, I don't know, the Uptons sharing the Bella Twins or something)

The bigger question is how the fuck does this HR by Edwin get measured at only 419 Feet?

Trumbo just hit a HR to make it 50 Hrs on the night.

Sorry for pimping deadspin on here so often, but after the blown call at the Indian's game last night they have a good article up about MLB's review system and how most of us have bigger screens on our phone. The first few replays I saw made it hard to tell that that ball wasn't deflected off the wall, and I'm sure that STO had better video guys than the MLB.

Rays' P Alex Cobb had a historic night.

#1 - He set an MLB record by striking out 13 batters in 4-2/3 innings (two other batters grounded out to SS), but since it took him 117 pitches to do it he didn't even get out of the fifth.

#2 - He turned in this all-timer of a line for an inning. 1IP, 4K, 0BB, 0H, 1ER. Venable reached on a wild pitch, stole second, stole third, then scored on a balk. I don't think that tops Cingrani's 4Ks in an inning and getting out of the inning with the bases loaded though.
