Based off of what is obvious and we already know, Clarett had better numbers than Beanie for their freshman years. However, I like the fact that Beanie has shown that he can deal with injuries/pain (ie. ankle), while we always had to worry if Clarett would suit up each week.

The numbers are not comparable for their freshman season, but I'll take Beanie for many reasons.

Clarette was a disapointment as a person but that 2002 NC doesn't happen without a key play by him. He was a great back, he put it out on the field, he's just a fuck up. I don't know how Beanie will be in the future, but I have to assume that he's going to be more of a quality person than MoC, it's a tough call.

Clarett was the "face" of our 2002 NC team, The first at TOSU in 34 years. Love him or hate him, without him we don't win that NC.

People want to "forget" about him because of the off-the-field issues. The original post here deals nothing with that, so vote as you wish but to think that Chris Wells has contributed anything close to what Clarett did in his one season here is a fool.

Go back and watch your tapes of the WSU game, or the Texas Tech game. Go back and watch the tape of the scUM game. Watch the NC game over again. Clarett rushed about 25 times for about 50 yards, yet he made one of the most important plays of the game in stripping Taylor, and scored the winner in OT.

I'm no Clarett "lover" but I loved what he contributed to the 2002 Champs. Chirs is a great back, but he hasn't, in my opinion, approached the level that MoC brought in 2002. Peace.

I was just talking about this with my pops yesterday.

If you take a snapshot of what each guy did in the critical gametime element you gotta go with Clarett.
To be fair Clarett did start as a true Frosh. Likewise the impact he had on the games he played was much greater than Beanie has had thus far. And let us not forget the fact that even though Mo is doing time... Shawn Taylor is still his Beyoch for getting stripped of that interception in the end zone.
So for a snapshot I'll go with Mo... but in the end Beanie will have a much better career.

Had to vote Wells - Read through the freshman year arguements, and tend to agree that MoC did more with much less, but the question was "on field", not just freshman year. MoC was only on the field for 11 or 12 games, and only partially in most of those. Wells is still on the field.

:oh:

Go back to 2002 and look at Ohio State's offensive production with MoC on the field, and with him on the sidelines with an injury - it's not even close.

This year, the Buckeye offense has still performed at a high level even when Beanie has been dinged up.

MoC was probably the most talented running back Ohio State has ever had - size, speed, agility, quickness, balance, and unbelieveable vision, plus an overwhelming drive to succeed (the warrior mentality that has been questioned in Beanie). He also had an unquantifiable "X factor" that great players all have - what they do on the field just "works" and it leads to "big plays" (James Laurinaitis has it in spades).

LordJeffBuck brought up the numbers but Krenzel did not have the arm that Boekman has either. Clarett had to beat out Lydell and Beanie had to beat out Pittman. Can not compare the two freshman seasons. I also believe our Defense was the face of 2002. It is a shame that Antonio P decided to leave early because he could have been one of the best ever to wear the Scarlet and Gray. Wells is better on the field because he believes in Team not Individual. Wells can set the stage for being the best by finishing strong especially against SCUM.

I harbor no bitterness toward MoC and I hope when he has paid his societal debt he finds some measure of success and peace in life. I believe football is a team sport. In order to gain the measure of a player you must also ask what kind of team mate they were. With that criteria in mind I vote Beanie and it isn't even close.

Anyone who paid attention over Antonio's career here will tell you that he acheived the status of "one of the best ever."

I agree that MoC had amazing talent, but the biggest difference between him and Wells is that Clarrett came in as a much more polished RB. I think Wells has just as much raw talent as MoC. He's huge, fast (faster than MoC), and he punishes tacklers. He's also shown good vision.

I think Wells has just as much talent as MoC had, it just has taken longer for him to fully access it, and he's not even close to reaching his full potential, which is scary. Neither was MoC, which is even scarier. He would have at least won 1 Heisman and could've set some records.

Midway through the season I thought I'd be off on my prediction of 1400yds and 13-16TDs for Wells, but it looks like he could definitely still get that. He's become a beast.
