Haing S. Ngor
won the 1984 Best Supporting Actor Oscar for The Killing Fields.
He was tragically gunned down in his own front yard in Los Angeles by
gang members on February 25, 1996 because he refused to give up a gold
locket containing a picture of his late wife who had been allowed to die
in childbirth by the Khmer Rouge soldiers in 1975.
