Muhammad Ali (The Greatest of All Time)

Imagine what he could've accomplished during those 3 1/2 years in prison had he not been jailed for refusing the draft...
That's the thing. What gave him balls of steel wasn't what he did in boxing, as much as what he gave up to stand for what he believed in. And who knows where we would be in America if he hadn't done it.

This one hurts. I grew up a boxing fan during that era of Ali, Frazier and Foreman battling it out among themselves. Love him or hate him as a fighter, he was definitely "The Greatest". I still say that Mike Tyson, or anyone who came later would have been destroyed by any of those guys in their prime.
Every story I've read today about Ali, from people who had the chance to meet him, talked about how genuinely friendly and caring he was towards his fans, and how he would always take time to make sure that he talked with everyone who came to see him.
We lost a legend.
RIP Champ.

The fight to see would've been Frazier and Tyson with both in their primes. Holy shit, that would've been the most sledge-hammer boxing match ever.

Finally ready to do this through tears. I've stated many times on here that my 3 most favorite sports figures of all time are:

Woody Hayes
Archie Griffin
Muhammad Ali

What a terrible loss we've suffered as human beings today. The Champ is probably the most well known human being that's ever stalked the planet. Think about it. If you took a picture of The Champ to any corner of the world, chances are those people would know who he was. I had the absolute privelage to see THE Champ in person fight Chuck Wepner at the old Richfield Coliseum back in 1975. GOD I loved this man. I remember like it was yesterday that I predicted to my dad before I went to bed that night in 1974 when The Champ was fighting George Foreman in the "Rumble In The Jungle" that The Champ would win in round 8! Fuck'in NAILED it! His posters dominated my bedroom, his talent kept me mesmerized, and his true kindness to all people of all colors and all nationalities made him by far the most influential figure in sports history.

Rest in peace Champ. Although in losing you I've lost a huge part of my childhood joys, I'll hold true to the fact that you're enjoying everlasting happiness in your new home.

"I'm the best. I just haven't played yet."
-- Muhammad Ali on his golfing abilities.

“I done wrestled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale, only last week I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalized a brick. I'm so mean I make medicine sick.”
-- More of Muhammad Ali, talking about The Greatest’s greatness.

I actually had my driver's license in 1965;however, I don't remember any car record players. As I recall 8 Track players were becoming all the rage.
