Negative Recruiting Tactics and Silent Verbals (split then merged)

good point but, I posted golic and others praise King Tressel.Your right about him being a ND DOMER LOVER. I just dont like the way he tries to stick up for a very average team. He talks them up like an OSU, USC, LSU,AUBURN,FLORIDA AND GEORGIA team who, I believe are by far , the top teams easily.

He does stick up for OSU a lot. The whole clarett shit was blowing up again and M&M WENT TO BAT FOR OSU BIGTIME AND WHY , I think its cause of Tressel and Herbie, to class act buckeyes.

I agree...I wasn't specifically replying to you, but more the posts from the last page...:)

EDIT: Now that I look back, I guess I was pointing to you from one of your posts from the last page...:biggrin:

disappointing news

on Devon Still... that update sounded pretty bad for OSU

1. how can he not have met his position coach for OSU yet? He was on an official visit in September.

2. 3 hours to PSU yet 9 to OSU? Hmmmm, that sounds off a bit. It's more like 8.5 to OSU and 4 to PSU.

I'd say this looks 70/30 in favor of PSU

From my door (I am probably 10 min from where he lives) to the OSU campus it is more like 7.5-8 hrs PSU from here is about 3.25-3.5 hrs depending on the route and traffic.

From that update and what I was told this evening by someone at Howard VoTech, PSU is looking pretty good for Devon. I know our experts have said this one was going to OSU, but I think something changed in the last 48 hours.

In that article he mentions BranDon Snow (another local kid from Wilmington). I'm sure Snow didn't tell Devon about being in JoePa's "dog house" for almost 2 years while a kid with half his talent started at FB. Or that they picked up several good DT/DE's last year

I know there are a million factors in making a college choice, AND has not signed with PSU just yet, but...I have the hardest time comprehending why a student would choose to go to a school that's been sliding (minus their miracle season last year) for a decade now and is practically guaranteed to lose 3-5 a year. I have this same question every single year which tells me, I just don't get it and probably never will...either that or I just don't want to get it because I want these recruits. Me personally, I want to go somewhere where my odds of playing for an NC are highest...some kids want PT and a home environment. Without this stuff though, of course recruiting wouldn't be recruiting and it would only be about a 1/3rd as interesting. After that rant, I'd really like to get Still in this class...we'll see.

And very few schools rival PSU in negatively recruiting OSU...

A lot of 17 and 18 year old kids don't understand yet that graduating from college is a function of hard work and has very little to do with where you go. All these programs have the athletic/academic support in place to get a degree. But even with JT as coach it would seem that PSU is still playing the "grad rate" card with recruits when they go head to head with OSU. You were able to hear it last season with the MD/DC players we were after and now Still seems to have bought into.

PSU's ace is Larry Johnson Sr....no one on OSU's staff rivals that guy in closing ability for the Atlantic Seaboard kids...

Just got done reading your post on BN2...seems like you have written off most of the DL in this class, regardless of LJ's involvement. I know myself and the rest of the BPRT are still very confident about how this class, especially the DTs and DEs, will finish up.

I don't know.... I'll go off the reservation here:

Martin = Ohio State
Thomas = Louisville
Still = Penn State
Brent = Illinois
Wilson = Illinois
Jeremiah = not OSU
Heyward = not OSU
Barksdale = who knows?

Despite the "selecting not recruiting" mantra that we've heard elsewhere, Ohio State has lost a lot of recruiting momentum recently, as other teams have "gone negative", something that Ohio State is simply not willing to do. However, just like in political elections, "negative" sells, and lots of recruits are buying right now. I'd say that the DL class could still be salvaged with Martin and Barksdale (Thomas is more of an LB anyway, even if he ends up signing with the Buckeyes), and maybe some "off the radar" guy. Just my opinion, of course....

I will admit I am sick of people saying "picking not choosing"...but I still think Thomas ends up at OSU as long as his grades are okay. I think Jeremiah does as well, provided the same. I think LJB is right about Brent, Martin and Wilson. Still could go either way, although I tend to agree with LJB given everything that has happened, although it would not shock me to see him stick to his silent gerbil and come to Columbus. And I still think we get Barksdale.

I should have said we used to agree...given all of the PMs we have received all year confirming silents.

I admit that I came out of left field on my predicitions, and they do tend to go against the "intel" that we have received. However, JT has a track record of failing to close on OOS recruits, and I see the same pattern recurring again this season - Ohio State jumps out to an early (and often big) lead, then the negative recruiters start chipping away, and finally the kid ends up elsewhere, while JT and staff (and the "insiders" with access to the same) remain confident throughout and rely on the recruit's early "silent verbal".

Ohio State supposedly has/had silents from 8 or 10 uncommitted players - let's see how many actually end up at Ohio State. I'll say two or three.

If we are going to miss out on guys like Still, and Brent I wouldnt be suprised to see Heyward end up here.

From all reports he really loved his visit, but most put it off b/c of the fact we thought we had other guys that were higher on the board and had already given silents...

I still like Still and hope we end up with him, but the guy I will be real upset about is Brent.

If we could get Jeremiah, Barksdale and anyone of Still/Heyward/Brent I would be happy tho.

As for the DE position I think we land Martin and Thomas...
