New DC Thread (Merged all relevant)

as to timeline....

I can say i just found out that Snyder will be back at practice tomorrow and will be with the team for the rest of the spring....

that means there is not neccisarily a hurry to name someone...

edit: and not to throw things into too much of a tizzy....I think a couple of names have thrown themselves into the ring at the last minute....

Marshall's spring ball is over in 2 days.

edit: Their last practice is tomorrow morning at 7AM and then the spring game is at 4pm on Saturday. OSU practices at 3:15 tomorrow and is off Saturday.

It's convenient for him that there are no conflicts in that regard.

Blackney sounds like a helluva choice, but Tucker has obviously demonstrated talents being named Co-DC last year............this stuff about Tucker not being liked by any of the players is a shocker to me, it's the first i've heard, although BuckShots sells it well, so i won't disrespect him, it could very well be true....................although, taking that information with a grain of salt, based on everything i've seen I would prefer Tucker for the recruiting aspect as much as anything else

Snyder with OSU through spring ball?

Snyder is actually running Marshall practice tomorrow and then observing spring game. He's crazy to come back and try to work with the Buckeyes for the rest of our spring ball. This is a profession where you need to move the second the decision is made. Not helping him and not really helping us.

Mark has class enough to not abandon his current team. He may have been "hired" according to what a couple Marshall players have said, but he's still on OSU's payroll until they release him.

Snyder will be here??

Jim Heacock was named as the interim defensive co-ordinator and Luke Fickell is the number 2 man on defense. (as per Steve Helwagen from BN premium)
So, I am not sure whether Snyder will still be here...

Also, I guess we shouldn't expect a decision for another 1 or 2 weeks since we have an interim co-ordinator named for now. If the decision was already made(Tucker/Blackney) as it was suggested yesterday then we might not have an interim co-ordinator. I guess more people have thrown in their names at the last second, as Alan was referring to. It's going to be a week at least..that would be my GUESS.

Correct me, I'm sure somebody will. if I'm wrong. But hasn't our recruiting efforts in Florida, suffered recently. So based on the person who recruited Florida, leaving. Won't our recruiting in Florida get a boast? I recall someone in the know, perhaps HH saying," there were some problems with the person in charge of Florida recruiting"! My way of saying, recruiting in Florida should get better!

Jim Heacock, officially named head defensive co-coordinator, per official site? What?

That's coordinator! Smell check.

Football: Head Coach Jim Tressel has just announced Jim Heacock as the replacement for the departing Mark Snyder as the defensive coordinator for the Buckeyes. Luke Fickell will serve as the "Co-Coordinator".
This is Heacock's 10th year on the OSU coaching staff. He was elevated to Assistant Head Coach before the 2004 football season.
Fickell is in his fourth year on the coaching staff. He still holds the school record with 50 consecutive starts for the Buckeyes.
Tressel stated that former assistant coach Mel Tucker, now with the Cleveland Browns, had been contacted concerning the opening.
Tressel also stated that the search for a replacement position coach would begin after the conclusion of spring practice.
Details to follow.
