The one thing that annoys me about Patriots fans is the Tao of Philosopher King Belichick circlejerk.

I hope he's getting fucking torched for benching Malcolm Butler. Between that, getting punked twice by Eli Manning, failing to use his timeouts at the end of the game against Seattle before getting bailed out, and Kyle Shanahan shitting down his leg, the line between GOAT and being in '90s Bills territory is way thinner than I've seen anyone admit.

According to Belichick, it was strategic. Rumors are some combination of Butler having the flu and not practicing enough, not practicing very well, getting caught with weed, missing the team plane, getting into arguments with coaches, and breaking curfew. Considering he played special teams, I doubt it's discipline related at all and that's just Boston media being Boston media.

Even if he did break some rules...it's the Super Bowl. This isn't college, your job isn't to nurture young men or whatever the fuck, it's to win the Super Bowl. Not that Butler definitely would have won them the game, but your corners are getting torched and missing tackles in a very winnable game and the guy's going to be gone in the off-season anyway, swallow your pride and play him.
