So far total bust

new drive is in.. after jockeying... windows 7 loaded
my files are restored.. seems to have been a file restore not an image backup restore
despite the last thing I did last night was an image backup

no apps... no access to internet.. regardless if plugged in direct using ethernet

.
Another thought is corruption caused by a poor power source or electrical protection. The quality of electrical power has become a major problem in many areas. I have gone to better power protection on all electronics to protect them from corruption and damage caused by power swings and surges. A "brik"type surge protector is recommended. Or even just getting new surge protectors can be helpful as cheap surge protectors actually wear out and lose effectiveness.

I have been using Samsung SSDs for 3-4 years now without any problems and I love what they do for my computers.
As has been reported, the prices are dropping significantly recently.

I thought I had a great game plan...
I had backups - data AND image
I had the replacement drive

I swapped the drives
finally got W7 installed
attempted to do image restore but
ended up being only a data restore

I was stuck
then everything blew up
lost all my drivers...
no access to anything other than USB ports
wireless was gone
couldn't upgrade to W10

I was toast
Was outta my league (and I thought I was pretty IT literate)
came to this thread numerous times for a couple days... no posts
so had to go to the local IT shop

IT shop had similar experiences so they reformatted new hard drive
but they could install W10 via a CD
then they did a data restore.. seems the image backup was corrupted as well from damaged hard drive..
they basically built it out from there
and $300 and 5 days later, got my machine back
still took me a couple days to get drivers back and updates done
it's not exactly the way it was... but I'm content enuf
