No playoff spot for the SEC ... Really.

At one point does the playoff committee asks itself "How good in reality is Mississippi State's body of work?" and "Is that body of work better than Ohio State's?"

They're doing it already. And they value their wins over Auburn, Texas A&M and LSU more than your win over Michigan State.
Also their 5 point loss on the road to Alabama is being much more appreciated than your 14 point loss at home to Virginia Tech. It is as simple as that.

In a not-so-impossible world.....

tOSU, FSU Baylor & TCU win out.
Oregon loses the PAC12 championship to USC/UCLA/Arizona State/whoever.
Auburn beats Bama in the Iron Bowl
Ole Miss beats Miss St in the Egg Bowl.

Could ESPiN survive in a world in which no SEC team AND no Oregon make the final 4?

1. That's not my post.
2. You forgot Minnesota, which is ranked unlike two of the teams you listed.
3. I could make this argument a lot easier with TCU (I'm fine with Ohio State behind Miss St. for now) - who lost to #7 with wins over #12, #21, #25.

Miss St. only has 1 quality win, and we could discuss at length how Auburn themselves are over-rated.

Could make the same arguments about Ohio State losing to a bad VTech and squeaking by a bad and reduced Penn State."
That argument is already being made over and over again. My point is I'm not hearing any national scrutiny of the SEC West. Shouldn't the playoffs include the top teams playing best right now against teams who have built up a credible resume? Having said that... I think it's coming down to the conference championship games with Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State in if they all win out. If a 2 loss SEC team or a non-SEC champion trumps OSU in that scenario you really have to question this system. I would begrudgingly accept a 1 loss BIG 12 champion being selected over Ohio State but if we're playing strong at the end I don't see that happening.

Auburn's rating is the bigges joke in college football right now and the sad thing is if they beat Bama they are setting them up to jump back into the top 10 and into the conversation after being throughly trashed by the 15th ranked team the week before.

I'll accept "stupid" now. Will you if you're wrong? The potential for the SEC to take itself out of the playoffs is as clear as the remaining schedule.

As long as there is a 1 loss team in the SEC, they are getting in. If there is a 2 loss team, then that team should not get in if Oregon, FSU, Baylor,TCU, and OSU run the rest of their schedules. Everybody calm the fuck down and just let the next few weeks play out. There is a lot of crazy shit that can and probably will happen in the next few weeks.

SEC is in the heads of everybody. How about beating them in the biggest games on the biggest stage? That is just a thought. For the last decade, they have consistently won the biggest games and hell even Auburn got left out in 2004. Last year was a start even though Florida St. had to claw their way to get the win over Auburn. Just win baby! SEC this and SEC that......smh.

Stupid conjecture. The playoffs will in no way, shape or form be SEC-less. Nor should they be.

I'm not going to point the "stupid" finger at anyone. (Three more fingers pointing back at me, and all.) If I had to bet on it, I'd say that if the highest-ranked SEC team had 2 losses, that 2-loss team would get in - conference champion or not. Maybe they'd be left out if there were 4 undefeated teams outside the SEC. But this year, with 1 undefeated team (sorry, Marshall), and a pack of 1-loss teams, the 2-loss SEC team will make it in.

Edit - I'm saying that they WOULD get in. Not that they SHOULD get in.

Why not? If every SEC team has two losses and the other four conferences all have 1-loss champions, why the fuck shouldn't they be left out? Slive was so adamant about a no conference champions rule because he (and everyone else to be honest) thought it meant at least two SEC teams in every year. Let it fucking backfire on him and sit back and enjoy the shitshow that follows.

FWIW there is no limit on # of teams from 1 conference in the 6 elite bowls anymore either.
And as with last year, even if they lose all those games (and one of them will probably be a rematch in the Sugar Bowl so they can guarantee a team in the Final) ... won't matter in the next year.

SEC -4
B1G -2
PAC -2
B12 -2
ACC -1
MidMajors -1

The payout for the 4 playoff participants is $8mil each regardless of how far they go.
The payout for the 8 non-playoff elite bowls is $4mil each

So the SEC can expect to bring in $24mil while the other 4 conferences can expect $12mil at most - ACC and one other will get $8mil.
That's a lot of money that ESPN will funnel right back into their own investment (these proceeds primarily come from the tv contract).

Not to mention, over the past few weeks as I check records on Yahoo when I'm doing my game picks: WHERE do they get off dinging the BIG for scheduling nobodies at the beginning of the season? Have you LOOKED at the teams these guys schedule in NOVEMBER?!!! East-Effing-Cupcake Missouri. It's kind of insulting to read the records of these teams, and think that anyone is supposed to be impressed that they "dare" to play them in the waning days of the season.
