Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

As for Pryor he may give ND fits with his legs but until he can throw the deep ball he is limited in what he does in the passing game.

I agree there is plenty of room for improvement in the offense with Pryor, but again, the guy was a freshman last year gaining some great experience.

Anyway, here's some food for thought in response to your argument, leaving aside the rushing differences between QB's:

I assume you mean "write". Offensively, last years team struggled because of poor OL play. Injuries prevented them from developing chemistry and a consistent rotation. This year, assuming health is not again an issue, we will have the most talented OL in Columbus in recent memory. OL recruiting struggled for the first few years of JT's tenure. The last two recruiting classes have been loaded with blue-chip OL prospects. That is an area that will likely be improved from last year. Add in a year experience from Pryor and that is reason to expect the offense will see considerable improvement from last season. Also, this years offense is being tailored around Pryor's abilities. Last year he was thrust into the starting position and operated under a simplified playbook to allow him to ease into the position. As for RB, yes we lose Beanie, but this offense will be built around TP, and Boom Herron did quite well subbing for Beanie while he was hurt.

Defensively, tOSU has always done well reloading. The DL may be the best since 2002 and there is a lot of talent at LB. Safeties will be strong, but the CB's may be an area for concern as youngsters settle in...but there is plenty of talent there as well.

The biggest difference here is coaching. JT buries Weis. Sorry, their track record proves it. In 2006, he replaced a large chunk of the defense and still was #1 all year before it finally caught up in the BCSCG. Few programs have recruited as well defensively as tOSU, so it's not unreaonble to expect another very strong defense again. Weis has done little with the talent he has recruited the past two years and a win over Hawaii does little to change my mind about him. I do expect an improved N_tre _ame this season, but until Weis proves he can beat a good team, I'll remain skeptical.

I agree OSU has had a very good defense and probably will again. As for the offense you lost several of your best o-linemen so to think they will be improved right away is reach, heck maybe a huge wish. As for Pyror until he proves he can beat you with the pass teams will load up on him. Maybe in a year or two but I am not sold on Pryor yet,
he won't have Beanie this year.

Now for Tressell, he has a heck of a track record but as of late... he has to start winning the big games just like Charlie does.

The line will not have the experience but, without question, has a higher "top end."

Pryor showed last year he CAN beat you with the pass. I agree he needs mor experience doing that to prove he can put a game on his shoulders through the passing game...BUT....he should be better this year.

Every year top end teams lose top end talent and Ohio State is in the upper echelon of replacing. I agree that there are questions, as with most teams every year, but with the track record of Ohio State you have to ASSUME they will replace them....ND? Not so much.

Oh, btw, never put Tressel and Weis in the same anything...thanks.

Only outsiders think we lost our "best" offensive lineman. They were starters due to the youth and injuries to some of the others, but not the "best". This years line will be much better if they stay healthy. I absolutely agree Pryor needs to improve passing wise, but he wasn't nearly as bad as he was made out to be last season. His total abilities make him a bigger weapon than your average QB.

Now for Tressell, he has a heck of a track record but as of late... he has to start winning the big games just like Charlie does.
That may be so, but he has done it, many times over...Weis has not...ever.

There have been some attitude problems among some senior OL last year. Some weren't happy with Boeckman being benched. Some were causing so many false starts and other penalities that it was pretty desperate. Considering the recent recruiting of OL is been better than previously, its not really that much of a stretch to say this year's OL is expected to be much better than last year's.

When has Charlie Weis ever won ANY game of consequence?

Charlie Weis was the hemorrhoid on the ass of those Superbowl teams. How have the Patriots done without Weis since he left? I'm pretty sure they're doing just fine without him. Notre Dame, on the other hand, hasn't sniffed respectability with him at the helm.

So, no, Weis hasn't 'won' any big games. He has plenty of rings, but it's pretty clear that neither he nor Mangino nor Crennel were key cogs on that team. It's a red herring to say they were.

In addition, if you read these boards you'd know that there are numerous reasons to believe the line will improve with the graduation of some personnel.
