Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

"Notre Dame joining the ACC for 2020 is the romcom of the year, but would it make sense long-term?"

Geographically and academically, no. It's fine for the money teams, male basketball and football, but the travel costs for the non-revenue sports have to be much more than if they played in the Big Ten. Academically, the faculty would love to be in the Big Ten and it would be a tremendous boost to their graduate programs. Football wise, you'd have to assume that Miami, FSU and Clemson are programs that depend on a charismatic coach, administrations and police departments that look the other way, and are prone to mediocrity in between. Right now, Clemson is the only comp and they don't have to play them every year. They can count on going six and oh most years and get into the playoff picture, lose two games and still get into a decent bowl game. Also on the plus side, the appearance of Wake Forest on their sked give the Catholics an oppurtunity to kick the Baptists around.

They can pack their arena for a big basketball game, but the alums only care about football - not unlike our favorite school in that manner. In the past, it was Michigan that kept them out of the Big Ten. Recently, it was the ND alums.

Five Notre Dame players test positive

Notre Dame announced that five football players tested positive during two rounds of coronavirus testing this week.

The athletic department said the football program decided to test twice this week in light of the university’s decision Tuesday to move to remote learning because of a COVID-19 outbreak on campus. A total of 232 tests were done.

The five players who tested positive are in isolation. Through contact tracing, six other players have been placed in quarantine.

The football team has conducted 851 coronavirus tests since June 18, with nine positive results.

The Fighting Irish did not practice for a second straight day. Another round of testing is set for Friday. The team said practices would resume based on the recommendation of the medical staff.
